PS20 / PS21 Brush lag comparison with identical system and program settings! It is unusable. Finder latency, brush lag. What a crap! Any idea... It does not deal with brush smoothing (deactivated), it does not deal with GPU (iMac Pro with 120 GB memory and Vega Graphiccard) and it does not deal with cache, as both documents are opened just right before.

Test with identical brush strokes, color, transparency and speed. Such a mess...

We have a bug on this and we are trying to reproduce/recreate the bug.

Can you give us as much detail as possible?

What Wacom device and driver version? (is Tip-Up Assist enabled? If you go to Pen Settings and click on Options)

  • Which brush?
  • What brush size?
  • What opacity?
  • What document size (width height ppi)?
  • What mode?
  • How many layers?

If possible could you just attached the brush?

Thanks

  • Device Driver 6.3..39-1 (but is not related to this driver, earlier versions show same behavior)
  • Lack is in all brush sizes, but the bigger the stroke, the longer the delay
  • Opacity seems to have no influence as it is already the same behavior with 100%
  • DPI does not influence it very much, example is already with small, common Print 300dpi resolution on a Din A5 size
  • Just normal paint mode
  • Just one layer in document (The video is just a ne Din A5 document, opened and drawing...)

Thanks @Charts If you go into Wacom Pen Settings and click on the Options button, is Tip-Up Assist enabled?  If it is, can you disable it and try.  Let me know if that makes a difference.

I also updated Photoshop today and now it is working. I do not know weather it is the Wacom Update or Photoshop Update.

The Option does not change anything, but it is essential, as otherwise elements are jumping around, when moving them with the pen in Photoshop: https://feedback.photoshop.com/conversations/photoshop/photoshop-2020-wacom-tablet-problem-jumping-e...

chad@zewg.com_rolfs O.k. it was just the newly installed Photoshop. It came back now and is lame as it was...

Such a mess. One cannot draw in Photoshop 21?! the brush just draws straight lines instead of following a fast gesture. 21 like a charm 22 broken....

I made a new video but it's the same as it started in this chat.... and 21 and 22 are identical installations!

Hi I have been having issues with the eraser tool and pencil tool in Photoshop for 2 years now. Both tools are super slow and laggy, it's just impossible to get anything done or get a smooth line. It started with an update to either my Mac OS or my Wacom, I can't even remember. To be safe I have not updated either because when things go wrong, they seem to go very wrong and I can't have that kind of downtime in my work. I can't seem to go past Ps 19.1.8. This is super annoying because there are new features in updated Ps versions I use, so I have to flip back and forth between updates when I am working. I am on an iMac from 2013 OS Mojave 1.14.6- Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GYX 780M 4GB and have a Wacom Intuos Pro which I believe is from 2016. I am not sure if you need more info than this to give advice.

*cubpaw actually I use different version of Photoshop (installed parallel) at the moment (!) just to do different things in different program versions. That's a shame...

@Charts We put in a fix in the most recent update (22.2) that went out this week.  Can you try that and let me know if it has fixed the lag for you on your machine?  Thanks.

@chad_rolfs What exactly did you think you fixed? No change in the brush lag. The "export as" is not fixed at all, too. It takes ages to open folders and go back and forth in folder hierarchy.

Brush and folder navigation work perfectly in Photoshop 21, still (with every update).

But one cannot work with Photoshop 22 as the brush lag has no fix at all and there is something working in the background, what makes it impossible to navigate folders on external volumes, like a NAS, while trying to export an image...

I could send you a vid, where you can see, no change at all...

*Ayakoinu  We just released 22.3.  There's one fix in there and another one coming in the next release.  Let me know if it's improved at all.  Also can you tell me what OS (10.14.6? 10.15.7? 11.1? 11.2?), what your graphics card is (Radeon Pro 550 / Intel HD Graphics 630?), and finally if you go to Preferences > Performance, is Use native operating system GPU acceleration (in Advanced Settings...) enabled or no?  If you enable it, does that help at all?

I am also experiencing some pretty frustrating brush lag trying to make very simple marks on pretty small images. I have even set the Drawing Mode all the way down to Basic to try and smooth this out. I'm using an 8Gb MacBook Pro M1 running Big Sur 11.1. Also, I'm just using a trackpad for the input, there are no added drivers or anything to update.

The brush lag is killing me, practically unusable. can't accurately paint in a mask because the lag is so severe. I tried changing the drawing mode, tried using native GPU acceleration, tried everything suggested in this thread.

Here are my details:

Macbook Pro OS 11.2.3 Big Sur

processor: 2.6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7

memory: 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4

graphics: AMD Radeon Pro 5300M 4 GB & Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB

Photoshop cc 22.3 (updated a day ago!)

Wacom Intuos Pro 6.3.42-1 (up to date driver)

Please please please fix this...it's making my job so painfully impossible.

Has anyone solved this issue????????? This lag is crazy in CC21. Definitely makes photoshop unusable on a professional level. NEED FIX ASAP.  The lag is not seen when working in CC20, although there are other bugs - When you copy and move an object is snaps back to its original position (so irritating for workflow), if you move the object manually with arrow point by point it works. But that is ridiculous as it takes forever.

My details are:

Wacom Cintiq 24" Pro (latest driver - 6.3.42)

Working in PS21 CC and PS20 CC (all up to date)

Macbook Pro OS - Big Sur version 11.2.3

Processor: 3.1 GHz quad-core intel core i7

memory: 16GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3, Intel HD graphics 630 1536 MB

We need a fix please STAT Adobe. This is unacceptable for workflow, speed and accuracy. HELP.

Your YouTube example seems faster than what I'm experiencing. I make a brush stroke and it literally takes 3 seconds for the stroke to show up on the page.

Just an FYI everyone. I hit "RESET ALL PREFERENCES ON QUIT", in preferences > general. Shut down Photoshop CC21, and rebooted it after 5 minutes. The brush lag seems to have disappeared. Fingers crossed it's a long term solution and doesn't go back to lag.
