P: Color Distortion When Opening Images saved from Facebook in Photoshop 26.5

After updating to the latest version of Photoshop, we encountered an issue where images saved from Facebook from the previous year display color distortions when opened in the program. However, images saved recently from Facebook open without any issues and display correctly.

Thank you for posting on my thread as well. Still facing this issue and honstly it is becoming impossible to use photshop for what I need to because of this issue. Thank you for sending your potential work around. I will try this today and see if it helps in the interim.

Autre info : j'ai un mac book et viens de tester et cela fait exactement le même problème !!!
Donc je pense clairement que le problème ne vient pas de la configuration de l'ordinateur mais bien de Photoshop.

After a month working on this issue I have now received this response.

“….to be honest with you, I am unsure when this will be fixed, and here’s the response from Engineering “Lowering priority as bug has been around for a while and changing the way this works, may impact existing customer workflows.” though I have now again increased the Priority, but I still think this will take longer than expected.”

Any other M1-M4 Mac users please check your systems and report the findings to Adobe. If more cases are reported I might be able to get the support I need in this situation.

Had the same issue and was able to figure out a bit of a work-around for now.

If you open the image in Safari, then copy-paste it into a new Photoshop document, the image comes in with the correct colours.

Bit of a pain, but does the job.

@Anshul_Saini Hey thanks for the clarifications! I just wanted to let you know that unchecking the 'use GPU' checkbox in the performance tab doesn't change the result. A Facebook image I wanted to edit from some time ago still looks distorted the exact same way as shared earlier.

It's still looking GPU related.  Have you looked at the GPU Troubleshooting link that Get provided?

Your system spec and GPU are starting to get a bit dated, so your next step is to check

Preferences > Technology Previews > Older GPU mode 

and restart Photoshop.  I know that the GTX 1650 Ti is not pre 2016, but it is still your best bet IMO.

This persistent issue continues to affect a large number of users; seemingly unknowingly, and I am reaching out to encourage others to test their systems. I have confirmed that exporting images from Lightroom to Photoshop in AdobeRGB results in degraded shadow areas. I kindly ask that you export a dark image into Photoshop using AdobeRGB, carefully inspect the shadow areas, and share your findings with Adobe.

I have been in direct contact with their engineering team several times, and they have acknowledged that this issue spans various systems. As one engineer noted, “With the details engineering captured during our last meeting, we did some more testing and we are noticing different behaviours across different platforms Mac Intel, Mac Silicon and Windows machine and this is turning out into a really complex issue.” 

Although the engineering team is actively investigating, they have yet to diagnose the root cause. One engineer mentioned, “We are looking into creating diagnostic tools within Photoshop to aid in our diagnosis, but this process will take some time. We will keep you updated on any new developments.”

Unfortunately, this last update was relayed to me several weeks ago, and progress seems stagnant.

There is also a notable discrepancy in how Lightroom and Photoshop render soft proofing profiles. When opening an image in Photoshop in AdobeRGB and applying soft proofing with your chosen printer profile—or even sRGB—you'll observe variations in the rendering. Through thorough testing, I’ve found that Lightroom’s rendering in the develop module is the most accurate.

The most recent information I received from Adobe regarding this matter stated, “As for the proofing problems, Photoshop’s GPU proofing appears to be of lower quality than CPU proofing, which will not be a quick and easy fix.”

This issue is adversely affecting thousands of users, seemingly without their awareness. The Adobe representatives on this platform have dismissed my observations, blocked my posts and refused further support. Nonetheless, I remain committed to testing my system, collaborating with Adobe’s engineers, and reaching out to this community. I urge you to get involved: test your systems and communicate your findings to Adobe. The more open cases we generate, the closer we move to an effective solution. Please, let's work together to address this challenge!

I did not give any misinformation. Quite the contrary. Adobe has been dismissing this bug in order to cover up the problem. 

I have reproduced this issue on several different systems and have also watched Adobe engineers reproduce the bug on their own systems during video calls.

I have only reported my findings and combated misinformation on this forum.

Please do your own tests and see for yourself. This issue is affecting MANY unsuspecting users.
