P: Export As File Size Glitch When Saving Over Image

Here's a video showing a glitch I've noticed when using the Export As function in Photoshop. I can confirm that it happens with both JPEGs and PNG files. It does not happen if you use Save As.

I was using v23.3.2, but just updated to 23.4.1 and the issue is still occuring.

System Specs:
Windows 10 64-bit

Ryzen 3950X

RTX3080

64GB DDR4

2TB NVME for projects, numerous backup and storage drives

Hey,

I upgraded to 23.5.0 last week and this issue just surfaced. I did not have this problem with the previous versions of Photoshop. Now every image that I wish to save over gets deleted and then I have to save again.

Sorry, I thought I had pasted this before but I guess it did not get posted for some reason. I have noticed that if the Export As screen does not go away after clicking the Export button that the image I tried to overwrite had gotten deleted rather than overwritten, and that I have to click the Export button again and type in the file name of the image.

UPDATE: I updated my Photoshop to V24.0.0 and the issue is STILL occuring - try to overwrite an image with "Export As" and the program will delete the image rather than overwrite it. So I basically have to export/save twice.

@David25770682iyzt Sounds like you have something else happening that is different from the OP on this thread. I just tried the steps for the OP and it's working correctly on my end.

It sounds like after you try to save over a file, you're left with no file at all. You'll probably want to start your own thread with steps to repro or a nice video like the OP provided to better understand your issue.

Here is a video I just did saving over two images ... the first Save As image goes through fine but the second gets deleted and I had to re-save. This was the first video capture for me, so ignore the left hand side. You can see the img02 disappear from the window under Photoshop.

@David25770682iyzt I've tried the steps you've listed but I'm not seeing the same behavior on my end, I'm able to overwrite files without issue, I'm not losing anything. As Jeff mentioned, what you are reporting is not related to what this post is about, which was the reported file size was not changing when overwriting (which we have fixed). The video you've posted is impossible to see what is occurring. Can you recreate the behavior and tell your screen recording software not to capture both screens (if you are unsure how to do this, the easiest thing may be to unplug the secondary monitor while recording)?
