P: Object Selection or Select Subject Crashing

This bug often occurs on the Ryzen CPU5900x desktop.

I don't know how exactly reproduce.

but just step was simple.

1. Just pick Object Selection tool -> Sometimes Crash.

2. Just click "Select Subject" -> Sometimes Crash too.

This Computer driver is Nvidia Studio driver(Rtx2070) latest version.

I've only seen those crashes happen randomly in those two tools.(or function?)

Of course, every time a crash report appears, I pressed OK to submit it. Since there were several errors since last month... I think I pressed the error report about 20 times.

I checked the latest driver updates on Nvidia Homepage and saw, that there is a new one from this month. After updating, the problem has been fixed.

Thank you anyway!

I forgot to write down my photoshop version.

My PS version is 23.4.2(latest) on window10.

I always work with psd, so it's safer if there's a crash in the middle, but it's not right to press save more often in case of a crash.

There were three crashes today.

can be sure that there was no such crash before at least 23.4 or 23.4.1.

However, if we roll back to the previous version, we have no choice but to keep the current version because the zoom of the liquify is broken.

I haven't used the Select subject, Object Selection tool at all for a few weeks after a few such crashes. Because there are times when a crash occurs even if I choose a tool without using a function, so I don't use it for the stability of my work.

Of course, it would be easier to have that feature, but it's better to be safe than gambling where the work crashes during work and the work disappears.
Do not use that Select Subject and Object Selection as much as possible until it is fixed.

I have both Windows and Mac.

Mac hasn't experienced this kind of crash yet, but on Windows PCs, using the Object tool or Subject feature... Four to five times out of ten crashes occur. Virtually unavailable. Is it a problem with Windows 10? Maybe...

I thought it might be because Photoshop was not installed properly, so I reinstalled the 23.4.2 version exactly 6 times....

Hi @Jqqerry sorry to hear this.

I'm not seeing any submitted crash reports from you in our system. If you haven't done so already, please submit all Crash Reports along with your email address: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/submit-crash-reports.html That will help us diagnose the crash.

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

Thank you,

In fact, I've been getting advice from people around me for months because of this crash, but all I can do is to refrain from using the crash function to the fullest.....

Photoshop 2021 has no such problem at all, so I'm sure it's only 2022 problem.

@CShubert

I received the error in the same email as yesterday and sent you the system information as well.
I wrote down my email address, so please check it. There are probably some errors reported. If not... There's no way.

I use intel12700 + nvidia 3070 card + 32ram.

Until last year, the Subject function and object selection were really useful. There was no crash.

But Crashes happen too often this year..

It's sad that I press the button in fear every time, worrying that there might be a crash...

@CShubert

this time, I turned on Photoshop again while working on the rollback version of 23.4.1. Now, as soon as I turned it on, there was a crash. Crash content has been sent.

23.4.1 version may not be the solution. Should I roll back to 23.3.2? It's a broken version of the liquify zoom.

I just installed Photoshop 2020 because I was fed up with this crash. If we see the bug fix in the community, we will install the latest 2022 version again.
It was so painful for me to have a crash until the bug was fixed.

It's not fun to experience a crash. In fact, you can tolerate "slowness" while using a tool. But "can't even use it" is extremely harsh. With the introduction of Adobe Sensai, we loved the automated selection features, but the 2022 version of Photoshop (now 23.4.2) is virtually unavailable. I thought it was because my GPU was old after the first crash (because my GPU was 1070)
So if I had to upgrade my computer anyway, I thought this was the right time, so I paid a lot of dollars and changed the CPU to 12th generation 12900K, and the GPU had a hard time buying and installing 3080.
However, the frequency of crashes has become rather frequent, and I wonder what I spent a lot of money for. I feel very pathetic.

It is fun to use any function of Photoshop.
But now I'm afraid to use functions. This is because the workflow of the photoshop that I enjoyed working on disappears due to the crash.
So I even have a strange habit now. After you take an action (e.g. painting a brush), always save it before using a function such as a subject or object selection tool.
And it's good if there's no crash, and if there's a crash, we reboot Photoshop and try again.
If you succeed by rebooting, it's fortunate that it ends with one, but in severe cases, you have to turn off and turn on Photoshop six to seven times in a row.

This is a gamble.
So I think this needs to be fixed much faster than other bugs.

This should be fixed in the next update.(23.5)

Because it's August now. And maybe 23.5 is the last update of the 2022 version this year, and it's been tough all year because of this crash.

If it doesn't get fixed in this update, it will go to 2023 version, and there have been many bugs reported every time the photoshop of the masin version is released.
And I don't know if this crash will be reflected in the priorities of those bugs... It means you have to wait at least a few more months.

It is also a problem that everyone has become too familiar with the crash caused by using select subject, object selection tool, select and mask.

I just want this update to end by rebooting Photoshop over and over again and praying that that doesn't crash like that kind of crash.

Industry Standard - 4th main tool in a toolbar crashes PS 99% of the times.

I'm glad we can pay for downgrades, increased instability, and all the updates on neural filters that nobody uses XD

This is not just a matter of 23.42. This bug has already been reported since the beginning of the 2022 version. Will it be fixed next year? How long do we have to wait?

also, This causes a crash not only when you open the image, but also when you open the object selection tool, select subject.

They didn't get an answer for months for me to leave a link. What does that mean? They don't use Photoshop anymore, they're familiar with the crash situation like the comments above, and it's their workflow to restart Photoshop and continue working when it doesn't crash.

This is a bug that needs to be fixed. It's not a GPU defect or a driver or configuration issue.

I check the release notes + fixed issue pages every morning before I start working. And the Adobe community checks for new ways to fix these crashes. Actually, there's nothing new. I've been looking at the Burgriffort articles that people like me have reported earlier.

I hope the bug is fixed. Please stop starting my ridiculous day. I want to use the select function without a crash.

And on days when the crash is severe, the crash occurs as soon as the image is opened, and on days when it's really severe, it happens as soon as the photoshop is turned on. I don't think it's a lucky day. I want to stop watching Crash.

@Rewinde I saw that you attached the links of other people. I knew that many people suffer from this problem while sharing the experiences of many people with my team members, but I'm surprised and sad that more people actually experienced the crash and it's still going on. I hope Adobe fixes this quickly...

There are four cases in which this crash has occurred so far.

a. When open a image, jsut crash sometimes.

b. When pick or use object selection tool

c. When press Select Subject

d. When start PS....

And what this crash has in common is that once it happens, if you're lucky, you have to restart it once, and if you're not lucky, you have to restart it at least four or five times to continue working without the crash.

Crash occurs as soon as Photoshop is turned on, and crash occurs when Photoshop restarts and select subject is used.

At least, if you don't use the select subject function, it doesn't seem to crash, but it's embarrassing to crash as soon as you turn on Photoshop. I don't even know what to do. Will the fixed version be updated this week? =(

When will this be fixed? In fact, it crashes to the point where Photoshop is not available. A crash occurs just by pressing the W key, sometimes using the Select Subject function and sometimes the object selection tool. The weirdest thing is that even when I turn on Photoshop, it crashes.

It is not fun to have 7 crashes while correcting 1 picture.

I have never had this problem before, and 23.4.2 has a serious defect.

I'd at least like to "use" the photoshop. not "crash"
