P: Object Selection very slow response Photoshop 23.5

Current latest PS version is 23.5

And Object Selection is really slow.

It wasn't like this until the early version of PS 2022, but it's getting slower and at 23.5, it's really weirdly slow.

I thought there might be a speed difference between turning on and off the option, so I compared it, but the results were the same.

Precise previews for 16bit document on/off

Native canvas on/off

Multithread compositing on/off

Use Graphic Processor on/off

Image Processing- Select Subject(Device , Cloud) : I don't know if this affects object selection, but I tried changing options.

The size of the test image below is really small. 1000px x 667px (sRGB, 8bit document)

The reason why I tested it with a small image was because I thought it was because of the large image and the number of layers.

But if you look at the gif image below, you can see a huge difference in loading and speed

This is Photoshop 23.5's object selection.

23_5 16on.gif

Even though the end is cut to meet the gif capacity, the loading time in front is long. Once again, the test image is very small.

And Now this is Photoshop 21.0.3's object selection. you can check this...

PS 21.0.3 object selectionPS 21.0.3 object selection

Can you see the difference? It's a big difference.

This is the difference in speed that appears even though the image used in the test is really small.
In the actual working image (6000x8000px), there is a loading as if the computer had stopped a little bit.
It's the same if you try to select a very small, very simple part of a real image, not a lot of it.

This needs to be improved Speed or delay. In fact, the masking quality of those two images was almost the same.

I agree that it has not been fixed. NVIDIA forum also says that a driver that solves the photoshop issue will be released soon, so please make it work as a GPU again when it is released.

From yesterday to today, I installed different versions of many years(2020~2022) and compared them.
There was definitely a difference in the speed and quality of the object selection tool.

Speed : 2020 is fastest, 2022(23.5~23.5.1) is slowest

Quality : 2022 (Before 23.5. 23.1~23.4.2)

Stable : 2020~2021. 2022 is really unstable for me.

So, Clearly, 2022 has improved quality compared to 2020 and 2021.
But, It's been slow enough to be hard to use because of the crash, and it seems that there needs to be enough adjustment.
Of course, the quality of 2022 is maintained in 23.5 and 23.5.1.
But in order to do that, waiting 5 to 10 seconds for each select...I don't know if it's reasonable. Because even if edit the selection area to get the same quality in 2020 and 2021, for example, the total time is about 2-3 seconds.
And I read the article about GPU and CPU processing, and I understood why the speed dropped sharply from 23.5 version although it is of the same quality.

It would be best to realize the fastest speed of 2020, but I hope that it will be restored to its original state even if it is up to 23.4.2 for now. Please change it again so that it can be processed by GPU. Of course, the crash needs to be fixed.

@kikovo Wow! Did you test all the versions? Thank you for your effort!!
Then what version do you recommend until the object selection tool is fixed in 2022? Judging from your test results, 2021 seems appropriate. Is it correct? Which version will be the best in 2021?

Hi all,

Yes, it is still not fixed in Photoshop 23.5.1 Desktop app, and our engineering team is still investigating the fix for this issue. I have forwarded the latest responses to the engineering team.

I really apologize for the incorrect update.

Thanks,

Mohit

When will 23.5.2 come out? Do I have to wait another month? OMG
I haven't been able to use the object selection tool properly for a variety of reasons this year.
Crash out.... Slow....
It is regrettable that none of the updated Photoshop versions in 2022 has guaranteed the expected speed and stability. What's even sadder is that this sad reality will take another month to reach 23.5.2.
If the problem remains unresolved, the release will not be updated naturally to Photoshop 2023, right? No way... Until 2023...

I was tired waiting for an update, so I just ordered a radeon. I hope this will solve it........
But I'm sure it's an issue for Nvidia, but I'm worried that there's someone who's having this problem even though they're using Radeon.
I'm worried that the Radeon GPU has a severe fever.=(

How much longer do we have to wait? It's so hard for me that I haven't used Photoshop's tools properly for a year.
This is the first time I have experienced this while using Photoshop. I know programs can't be perfect, but it's a very different story to not being perfect and a tool not working all the time. Even the contents inserted in YouTube or banner advertisements talk about the convenience and speed of individual selection tools. It's a story that's so contrary to the reality I'

I think 23.5.2 will be released on the day Nvidia's new driver comes out, or the day after.

@ya26149125npyr I also "hope" that the new nvdia studio driver will come out soon after it is released, but I don't think it will come out on the same day or the next day.

And what I'm curious about is that if I install a new Nvidia driver (for fix photoshoo crash), will all crashes from 23.0 to 23.4.2 be fixed?

If that is possible, not only 23.5.2 but also all the builds released in 2022 can be used normally, so there is a wide range of choices for us.

But I was when Nvidia to ask about this, they are suitable for the launch of a new driver and Photoshop that patches to normal will be available to go to Washington.

So I think we should just pray that 23.5.2 comes up soon......

object selection tool in 23.5 and 23.5.1 is too slow unlike the experience I used.
Turn at least at the same speed as 23.4.2-23.4.1. Also, please solve frequent Photoshop turn-off (crashdown). In the previous version, just pressing W caused a crash and I was going crazy.

If an update is uploaded tomorrow, it would be better.
The bugs that are reflected late in the release usually require something to reproduce a particular situation, and there are also minor bugs. But you can use it as a result.
But you can't even use a bug about this object selection tool right now.
In order to use it, I have to wait for strange loading in the current version, and versions like the previous 23.4.2 version even destroy my file due to a crazy crash.
It doesn't make sense that none of the 2022 versions have the original, working version.

@ceyoko  The CEO of Nvidia will give a presentation on the upcoming 20th. In line with that, NVIDIA's future, technology, and some new products will be released, so I think a new driver will be released according to that schedule.

If this 23.5.2 update is released, I hope it will be a treasure-like update that addresses both the crash of the past year and the current slowdown speed. It's hard to wait any longer.

As expected, Nvidia GeForce Beyond has ended and a new driver (517.40) has been released.
I think we just have to wait for Adobe's 23.5.2 release, which includes a patch that restores this slowdown ObjectSelectionTool.

Thanks, @Jqqerry, for letting us know. I've installed the new Nvidia studio driver and there is no change in speed yet with 23.5.1. I have Image Processing set to Device (Quicker results) but it's still slow in comparison. Hopefully, we'll get that patch in 23.5.2!

@J E L  Yes, Nvdia's driver for crash fix as i know.(23.0-23.4.2 crashing).

Now that the drivers they need have been released, the appropriate software will need to be patched.

Since this driver has not been released, we have not been able to prevent the crash for the past year, and we are temporarily processing it with cpu at the expense of adding speed, so I think we just need to get it back to its original state. We are waiting!(a year ago... lol)

@dovocib Umm... That's your choice. But you don't have to do that...
If you want to start a new release neatly, Press Win + R and typing "CMD". And sfc /scannow
If you haven't found a problem, use it as it is, and if there's a problem that doesn't recover from it, it might be helpful to reinstall the OS.

@xisehaf Now that the Nvidia driver has been released, updates will be released in Photoshop as soon as possible. Stable(no crash) and fast as you want

@mocil1 No wonder there is no change in speed just by updating the driver(517.40).
The purpose of the latest Nvidia Studio driver is to fix the crash of the past year, which is only the basis for Photoshop updates.
In order to speed up, Adobe team should quickly change the previous changes to avoid crashes and temporarily process GPU processing to CPU. Of course, it is expected that the latest driver will work well with future releases of Photoshop 23.5.2.

My Creative Cloud has been updated, so I think a new Photoshop will be released in a few days.
Usually, as I remember, there was an update to the Creative Cloud before a new photoshop release that included an update.
I hope the object tool will be fixed in this release!!!!!

@la escuela I didn't understand your language. I'm sorry.
@lông tơ @wa26233587tyyt As I wrote above, installing Nvidia's new driver does not change anything.
Adobe will need to update this for this broken speed to recover.
Many people expected the new driver to be released after Nvidia Beyond and it was right.
However, I expected an additional release of 23.5.2, but if you look at the beta version, it is 24.0. So Adobe is expected to fix this Object Selection Tool in 2023....(It's a pity that it's become a reality that I haven't used it properly for a year.)
btw, You can see the release date of Photoshop in the previous year and predict the release date of Photoshop 2023 (24.0).

Photoshop2019(20.0) : October 15, 2018
Photoshop2020(21.0) : November 4, 2019
Photoshop2021(22.0) : October 20, 2020
Photoshop2022(23.0) : October 26, 2021

Of course, this may not be the answer, but if we follow the release cycle so far, we will have to wait at least another month.
I also hope that the fixed version of this will be released as soon as possible, but I don't think there will be any additional fixes at least in September. Everyone, cheer up =)..

I think it's a year to learn how to wait throughout the year.
We're tired now...............Of course, I know it's an issue with the Nvidia driver and I understand that there have been many problems, but it's still incomprehensible and unfair that I haven't used it properly for a year.

Of course, Photoshop has many choice tools other than the Object Selection Tool.
But I've definitely seen the phrase "object selection tool" and the advertisement on the release page and other news, which are definitely better than the previous version................ Now I don't even know what to do.

To use the object selection tool at its original speed without a crash, Photoshop 2021 must be used. That's the only way.
All the builds of Photoshop 2022 were not properly used due to the slowness and crash of the tool.
