P: Photoshop 2025 v26.6 Bug - black document window

Explorer ,
Apr 24, 2025 Apr 24, 2025

Photoshop 2025 v26.5 was working absolutely fine, then I made the mistake of updating to the latest patch, version 26.6.0 on my M4 Mac Mini.

After updating to 26.6, the actual document window is solid black - even if I open a photo or previous document...

With-Graphics-Processing.png

Even though the Layers and Channels palette preview thumbnails are showing what's in the document...

Layers-and-Channels.png

After digging around in Preferences, I tried turning off the "Use Graphics Processing" option and relaunching Photoshop afterwards, and it's working fine again...

I'm just wondering if this is a bug related to the M4 Mac Mini graphics driver compatibility with the version 26.6.0 release? And, if so, when can we expect a fix from Adobe.

I've discovered the workaround for now, but obviously turning off the Graphics Processing setting will affect perfomance. Like I say, with this option switched on previously to the latest 26.6.0 release, it was working fine so it must be a new bug with 26.6.

I'm never updating this software ever again!!

I have just upgraded to Photoshop 26.6.0 and can not see any images or layers in any files I open or create. Is anyone else having this issue?

Could you please post a screenshot of the entire window with the Layers panel expanded and visible?

As a quick solution, you can revert to a previously working version https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/using/install-previous-version.html

System info sent by message to Srishti Bali (you have been very helpful in this thread). Problem very frustrating and even had me reinstalling Photoshop. Hopefully this will be sorted quickly. I note that the new colour adjustment has arrived (it was in the Beta) and that caused problems as well (Uninstalled the beta variant). Could there be a link between the 2 problems???

Thanks for your response. I have posted screenshots of the problem when in RGB mode and the same file converted to CYMK.

I would like to wait for a fix upgrade rather than uninstalling.

I hope this problem can be fixed quickly.

Patience is required. After InDesign, the problems with Photoshop are now beginning! After the update (26.6.0) I can only use Photoshop with GPU support disabled although it is compatible (Mac Book M3). With GPU I only get a black document area. But without GPU it works but I get no visual feedback (red color) when I adjust the brush size and sharpness. I hope the update doesn't take months like with InDesign as I will have to continue working without GPU support.

Hello

Same problem here  😛

After turned off the "graphic acceleratiob", I was able to open the file but noticed that the masks are incorrect!!! They all look like in square/tile shape…

Hi,
I have exactly the same problem with the black view in RGB mode! I have an iMac Retina 5K, 2020.
With AMD Radeo Pro 5500 XT 8 GB.
If you change the 8bit/channel to 32bit/channel, the image becomes white again. Just like with the setting in CMYK. This is an absolute BUG and must be fixed as soon as possible!

I'm having the same issue but only on one of my Macs.

26.6.0 is fine on my Mac Studio M2 Max

but on my MacBook Pro M1 is black screen. Turning off Graphic Processing as me up and working without having to roll back to previous version.

I took off graphics and then restarted Photoshop and it worked. I then went back in set it to graphics on restarted and it worked. I'm not sure this is a permanent fix.

sorry @PAULNITARDO but can't confirm that this works for all cases. I tried and when I turned the performance graphics back on, with or without a restart after turning the setting back on I'm still getting the black canvas.

Same here. MacBook Pro M3 Max. Disabling graphics processing fixed that isssue but, of course, left me without my graphics processor in Photoshop. I seemed to recall this problem a while back. I just reverted back to Photoshop 26.5.0 and will check back here as Adobe releases updates.

Same issue with RGB files opening as black images. I was running latest version of Sonoma and when I got through to tech support, they told me I had to update to Sequioa with photoshop v.26.0. I hated to do it but I did. Updating OS did NOT fix the issue. And now I can't get through to Adobe. (Their phones lines are probably getting flooded with thousands of complaints) Since I'm a retoucher who works with very large files, turning off graphics processor really slows down performance. (tested on a 14GB_RGB.psb file). So, disabled auto update (temporarily), uninstalled PS v26.0.0 and went back to v26.5.0. Voila. Problem fixed. Will update in a few days or however long it takes Adobe to fix the issue.

Exact same issue for me.

Your work-arounds (I won't call them fixes) DO WORK but as someoene else mentioned, all previous version work fine with "Use Graphics Processing" turned on.

Yeah @Dimitrios37266978173g rolling back to the previous version is a valid fix. This wasn't an issue until the version that I belive came out earlier this week. I updated yesterday and thats when the problem occured. Turning off Graphic Processing and waiting to see if next update fixes it is one option, the other option is to roll back on version and then wait to leap frog to the fixed version whenever that comes out.

Hi,

I just instalked the update for Photoshop 26.6.0 on a Mac Studio M2 Max  32 GB Ram running Sequioia 15.4.1
when I open a Raw image in Photoshop,  from Lightroom or directly (Post Camera RAW) the image is black.

I know this was also a problem back in I think 2022 and the workaround was to turn off the graphic processor, (which does work as a fix) but I really don't want to do that. Plus the last time it happened, they released a bug fix.
Is a bug fix iminent?
Thank you

@Bernard32336728qgni try manually resetting your Photoshop preferences
https://helpx.adobe.com/ie/photoshop/using/preferences.html#Manually
Remember to back up your settings before doing the preference reset
https://helpx.adobe.com/ie/photoshop/using/preset-migration.html

If that doesn't help, try using the Adobe cleaner tool
