Thanks - I did as suggested: Preferences > Performance... click Advanced Settings... and uncheck "GPU Compositing" and when closing Photoshop, received the same error, that Photoshop needed to close. When I went to re-open the program, just to see if GPU was unchecked, nope, it was still checked. The crash did not allow the preference to save. FYI, I have Windows 10 (up to date) and have a NVIDIA GeFroce MX250 Graphics card. HP says all drivers are up to date. Photoshop is current as well. Thanks for assistance - any other options to try?
It may help to find a workaround if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

The drivers for the both cards are old. The intel one is really old. Try updating the drivers directly from the Intel and NVIDIA site using a clean install method.
Just an FYI for the engineers and troubleshooting files - before updating the graphic cards, I uninstalled Photoshop 23.3 and installed the previous version, 23.2.2 and have experienced no issues, Photoshop has not had to close. Perhaps something is a-miss between versions 23.2.2 and 23.3?? Thank you!
Thanks Jeffrey - I enabled the 'Use OpenCL" and updated the program to the newest version... and it still crashed. One thing I have noticed since the issue startes was as the program is trying to open existing files, it gets sort of stuck - the text at the top "Select and Mask" appear just before the crash report. Not sure if it means anything or not, but thought I would share. I have since unstalled & downgraded a version to get the program working. Be happy to troubleshoot further. Thank you!
