P: Photoshop CC 25.9 (non-beta) Error: 0xc0000142

Hi,

I've noticed that there has been an isssue reported with Photoshop CC 25.9 (beta) here about Photoshop failing to start with error 000142.

However, it looks like this is now occurring on the released version of 25.9.

Photoshop auto-updated itself today (was working fine before), and I now get the same error 000142 when I try and start it. This is NOT a Photoshop beta version.

This is on Windows 10. CPU is a 14 year old Intel core i7.

I know it's old.... but it's been working fine with no issues 🙂

Is this no longer supported?

If that is the case, why did the auto-updater allow Photoshop to update?

Am I going to need to downgrade back to the previous version or is this issue going to be fixed?

Seems very strange that if Adobe knew of this issue that v25.9 would be released without fixing it.

If I do need to downgrade, how do I do that? I can't see a way to select a version to install.

You have a very good point. Unless you want to downgrade to 25.7 (which should still work on these systems), you can type 'msinfo' from the search bar on Windows and then File > Save that info and share it here. Thanks.

Please downgrade to 25.7 (via CCD) and then share Help > System Info from Photoshop. We thought we had a fix for this and are now trying to figure out what the configuration is that currently triggers the crash on launch. Thanks.

From an older version that will run, perhaps?

Older computers are coming to the end of the line for both PC and Mac environments. Apple is going to stop supporting Intel soon and Microsoft doesn't support older computers on Windows 11 (Windows 10 goes out of support next year.)

Anyone using one of these older machines should consider their upgrade paths. Its unreasonable to expect software vendors to fix every incompatibility with old hardware.

Vale que la Beta tenga sus cosas (por algo es Beta), pero que una actualización, de repente, inutilice el programa por el que pago... eso ya es muy grave.

Ouch! Just like the problems I've been having with PS Beta 25.9 and 25.10, today's (5/22/2024) update to the released PS 25.9 won't launch. I updated from CCD today. Because it won't launch, I can't give you a Sysinfo.

Un nuevo problema:

CCD no me deja desinstalar las versiones de Photoshop 25.9 (que no puedo usar), ni la beta 25.10 (que tampoco he podido usar). Me da un error de deinstalación en ambos casos.

Esto va de mal en peor.

Muy cansado ya de esto.

These are older (i7-920) and low-end (Intel CPU Family:6, Model:14) processors, Adobe probably just compiled for newer processors that use newer instruction sets.

I have exactly the same issue with 25.9, also on Win10 with a first gen Core-i7. Is there a way to produce a log for diagnostic purposes?

There is nothing that Adobe needs to know. You have an old processor. Intel adds new features in each generation and when a program is written and compiled for release, some of those features can be used/required. Both Microsoft and Adobe are dropping support for older hardware (as is Apple, on the Mac side.) The only fix going forward is going to be newer computers.

So Adobe does not need to know? As money drains from our bank accounts would you suggest to Adobe that we switch to a different company's software? Already this has gone on (in UK) for days & yet again I am being asked to update to v.15.9.

Dopo un aggiornamento photoshop non si apre. Ho riavviato pc, poi ho disinstallato e reinstallato. Sto pagando un programma che non posso usare. Si apre una finastra con scritto: "Impossibile attivare correttamente l'applicazione (0xc0000142)". Cosa posso fare?
