P: Photoshop CC 25.9 (non-beta) Error: 0xc0000142

Hi,

I've noticed that there has been an isssue reported with Photoshop CC 25.9 (beta) here about Photoshop failing to start with error 000142.

https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/photoshop-beta-v-25-9-cannot-be-start...

However, it looks like this is now occurring on the released version of 25.9.

Photoshop auto-updated itself today (was working fine before), and I  now get the same error 000142 when I try and start it. This is NOT a Photoshop beta version.

This is on Windows 10. CPU is a 14 year old Intel core i7.

I know it's old.... but it's been working fine with no issues 🙂

Is this no longer supported?

If that is the case, why did the auto-updater allow Photoshop to update?

Am I going to need to downgrade back to the previous version or is this issue going to be fixed?

Seems very strange that if Adobe knew of this issue that v25.9 would be released without fixing it.

If I do need to downgrade, how do I do that? I can't see a way to select a version to install.

Thank you for your help

Liz

Thanks for sharing the info! It appears that the processor you're using does not support SSE version 4.2 or higher which is required for Photoshop 22.x.

Please check: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/system-requirements.html

If earlier than SSE 4.2 you will get this error 0xc0000142 or ippCV error. Please check: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/known-issues.html#ErroratloadingofippCVlibrary

Yeah, i knew it you guys allways want to transfer the responsability. My processor is fine and have support to the app. It's working okay before the automatic update, now, nothing is working anymore. I already had said that the problem was in the program and the instalation packages with problems and peaces missing.

This it's been a dead end until now

Please try rolling back to the previous version of Photoshop (21.25) using the steps suggested here: https://adobe.ly/2wH0JjE

Please uninstall the latest version of Photoshop first & select the option to Keep Preferences prior to installing the previous version.

Let us know previous version works!

Sorry, but in this case you're thinking wrong.

The recent version of Photoshop (v 22.x) requires a actual CPU that supports SSE 4.2. Your processor came out about 12 years ago and doesn't support this feature. So your processor doesn't match the system requirements.

As nikunj.m wrote go back to Photoshop v21.25. This version should be running on your system.

BTW: I don't be an employee of Adobe. I'm a user as you are.

Soo i got back to the 22.0.1 version os photoshop, changed some configurations, desativated automatic update and now it's working just fine. Thank You for trying to help you all, but this is just problematic and in part, injust. But thank u

You have installed the wrong version. Photoshop 21.x isn't the same as Photoshop 2021.

If your CPU doesn't support SSE v4.2 you have to go back to version Photoshop 2020 (21.x).

Good!! how did they solve it?

It only lets me install photoshop 22.0, I can't install a previous version. Apparently my computer does not pull that update so I must install some previous photoshop. But I don't know where to download photoshop 21.

I'm paying for something I can't use 😞

Please be more specific.

Which operating system do you use?

Which version of Photoshop do you use?

Please post the exact version numbers and not only phrases as ""recent, "latest" and so on.

Do you get an error message? If yes please post the message word-by-word as text.

This will help us to say more about your issue.

Mine is doing the same thing with the new beta version and my processor does support SSE 4.2. Everything worked up until the 25.9 updates, now that one and the 25.10 updates won't work. I know it's not my system. Everything I have is compatible. I made sure a few times. I also wanted to mention that the 25.9 update did fully work for a day so it's not my system. The next day I got the error and nothing worked since. "The application could be started correctly (0xc0000142). With every update I hope for the best but it still gives the same error. I am seeing a lot of people getting this error and am surprised Adobe has not come up with a fix for this yet. And removing NIk did not help nor did resetting preferences, uninstalling or reinstalling.

@MissLiz I'm not seeing version 25.9 as an available update in the Creative Cloud app, you can downgrade via the Creative Cloud app

Thanks for the info @Ged_Traynor

@Noel.Carboni

Why has 25.9 this been released? You knew about this issue in the beta version at least 2 weeks ago....

Seems madness to release it now with such a distructive outcome!

Can you give any estimate for when a fix is likely?

Thanks

Liz

By @MissLiz

@MissLiz  As @Ged_Traynor already worte, there's no update to Photoshop 25.9 for the released version. The regular version of Photoshop is 25.7.

25.9 was only a Beta version available. Today Adobe releases a fix for the Beta 25.10 in which the error has been fixed.
