P: Program error when trying to use clone stamp tool

Problem started 2 days ago. Only when attempting to use the Clone Stamp tool. Other tools seem OK. I re-installed Photoshop and reset the tool. No benefit. No changes to hardware or software on PC. Error text "Could not complete your request because of a program error". Also cannot dismiss error message. Have to press Ctrl+Alt+Del to access Task Manager to close Photoshop.

Can confirm.  I'm seeing the same behavior in 23.4.1, and when I roll back to 23.3.2, it's back to normal.  Updating again to 23.4.1 brings the issue back.

When i want to start using the clone-stamp or healing brush tool, the program quits en closes saying there is an unexpected quit. Restarted a couple of times, but keeps giving me the message. Is there a solution for this? Thx in advance

Kind regards

Curious if rolling back to 23.3.2 solves this issue for everyone like it did for @Andrewspix ?  Please let us know so we can pass this on to the team to investigate.

Thank you,

Using Win 11 Home up to date at 4 July 2022, Graphics card AMD Radeon RX66700XT drivers up to date at 4 July 2022.

Attempt to use Clone stamp or Healing brush produces error message -Could not complete your request because of a program error-

Reverting to Ps 23.3.2 fixes the problem, re- installing Ps 23.4.1 brings the problem back again..

Dopo aver installato l'ultimo aggiornamento sui due pc, in uno dei due il softwae si blocca quando utilizzo la funzione clone e qundi debbo tornare alla versione precedente. Nell'altro tutto funziona regolarmente. Quale può essere il problema?·

I suggest to reset the preferences, i used to use all apps on two PC's.

  • Quit Photoshop.

  • Hold down the following keyboard shortcut and launch Photoshop:

macOS: command + option + shift

Windows: ctrl + alt + shift

  • Open Photoshop.

  • Click Yes in the dialog that asks "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"

Hi!

Just a quick question--how much free space do you have on your hard drive? And how much RAM on your machine?

I am having the same problem, and the listed fixes do not work. Using Photoshop 2022 on an iMac with big sur (v11.6.5).

HI Thanks for your reply. I tried all your suggestions but the problems persists.  Program error message when I try to use Clone Stamp tool or Healing Brush tool.

Photoshop 23.4.1

OS Win 11 Home x64 KB5013889

Graphics card AMD Radeon RX6700XT with Driver Adrenalin 22.5.2 of 20 June 2022

All tools and Photoshop functions (except Open GL which I do not need) worked fine with this Graphics card until a few days ago.

Please try to disable the option to "Use Graphics Procesor" from Photoshop by going to Preferences, then Performance. Once done, quit & relaunch Photoshop to check if that helps.

If you're unable to access Preferences and PhotoShop crashes before that, please go to the location C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2021. Then rename the Sniffer.exe to Old.Sniffer.exe and try launching Photohsop again.

If it helps, you can check out the steps suggested here: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-gpu-graphics-card.html

If the issue persists, you can try to reset the preferences of Photoshop using the steps described here:

Preferences in Photoshop (adobe.com)

Please backup your settings before resetting the preferences. You can check:

Migrate presets, actions, and settings (adobe.com)

Another try it to turning on the option »Deactivate Native Canvas« (Photoshop > Preferences > Technology Previews) and restarting Photoshop.

If this doesn't help we need more informations about your system.

Which operating system do you use?

Which version of Photoshop do you use?

Please post the exact version not only phrases like "recent", "latest" and so on.

Is your system up-to-date? Check if there any patches and updates are available, especially for the graphic driver.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. We're sorry to hear about the program error you get while using the Clone Stamp tool in Photoshop 23.4.1.

Could you please share the version of Windows on your computer?

Are you seeing this issue after any recent update? Is it happening with only the Clone Stamp tool or other tools?

Please go to Edit > Preferences > Performance section and uncheck the option "Use Graphics Processor." Restart your Adobe Photoshop and see whether it helps. If the issue persists, check out the other solutions.

Try to reset the tools followed by Photoshop preferences.
Steps to reset the Tools and Preferences: To reset all the tools at once, right-click on the icon of whatever tool is currently selected in the Tool Options, select "Reset All Tools," and then click "OK." When you use the Reset All Tools option, it will reset all the tool selections in the Tools bar to their defaults.
You may try to reset Photoshop preferences back to defaults and check if that helps.

Here's the article for the steps: https://adobe.ly/3ceal5t

Also, back up the existing Photoshop preferences if you have any custom brushes, actions, and workspace: https://adobe.ly/2vNz6FG

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Ranjisha

Hello, since updating mine to 23.4.1 2 days ago, I can't use the clone tool, the healing brush or liquify.  When trying any of these tools I get the error the first user mentioned, and clicking on ok doesn nothing.  It basically renders my photoshop useless, I have to force quit through task manager and reopen.
