PS version 24.3, Window10

Steps to reproduce:

... Covert Smart Object any layer
... Double click(=Edit Content). (In psb file change to 16bit mode)
... When finish what i want, save and close PSB. it's done.

Expected result: If work well, normally psb is gone, i have got just smartobject layer.
Actual result: Save is fail. If i manually save and close, it works.

But if i use Action, it's fail.

Action is nothing special. Very Simple Step.

1. save  ---- An error has already occurred here before moving on to the next step

2. close

3. Rasterize current Layer

I checked that this happens to all jpg, raw, and psd files.

And all other versions work fine except 24.3. So I rolled back.

Of course, before I rollback, I reset the configuration and tried various Photoshop issue solutions that I knew. (Administrative rights also)
So, it's bug

I'm trying to be concise as possible but please forgive me if I leave anything out. After updating Photoshop yesterday on my M1 Mac Studio (system 13.2.1) I tried to run a basic batch process on a folder of tifs that had one adjustment layer. The batch ran as flatten, smart sharpen, and then they were saved as a new tif and a separate jpg onto a folder on my desktop. Was able to record the action just fine but when trying to run batch I get an error. "Could not complete the command because of a program error." There was a button labeled "learn how to fix this" and when clicking it gave suggestions for fixing. I went through the motions suggested but nothing seems to help. I made sure photoshop was up to date and checked disk permissions but nothing helped. there was also a suggestion to "Hide all layers in the Layers panel then Save again" but since this was a flattened file this was not applicable. Tried mutiple times creating the action as well as variations. Nothing helped.  I am about to revert to an older version of photoshop.

Not sure if this is widespread or just me.

UPDATE! : rolled back to Photoshop version 24.2.0 and the batch runs fine.

I get exactly the same thing today, photoshop updated this morning. I have several actions that finish with a save, and they all fail. It pops up the dialog box "Could not complete the command because of a program error."

The simplest action I have is just a save (Control-S) and close (Control-W)

Note that is even fails if the image hasn't been modified, so the save isn't doing anything.

Existing actions crash using the 'Save' command in version 24.3.0!

Saving is not working in ATN?

Hi @Eric29031008fgsf go to Preferences/File Handling and make sure "Enable Legacy Save As" is checked and try again.

Hello,

All my actions that contain a "Save" (not Save As) step fail and halt with this error modall: "Could not complete the command because of a program error". Independent "Save" works as usual. Only in an Action saving fails.
I've made sure Photoshop was allowed Full Disk access. I've even rebooted my Mac.

I've reverted to 24.2 and it works back again,  hopefully. Thanks for allowing reverting to a previous version.

I've also tryied with the latest Beta ... same problem.

Pleas fix this issue otherwise I'm stuck with V24.2 for long.
Best regards,

Thierry

Hi @TVNshack did you re-record or update your action after updating?

Did you confirm under Preferences/File Handling that "Use Legacy Save As" is checked?

I have a long list of recorded actions to help me resize images (I use these every day!), but since the latest photoshop update, each one of them is failing when it gets to the 'Save' command.

Ideas, please?!

Hi @KPig

Thanks for reaching out.

Would you mind sharing more details on this? Do you see any error messages?

What is the action about?

Please try saving the files to Cloud and let us know if that helps.

Best,

Ranjisha

@Bojan Živković11378569 , its’s about a plain »Save« as recorded in an Action or inserted from the Menu Items.

Hello,

Since the update I installed yesterday 'save' does not work as part of an action anymore 😩, any ideas?

Using a 2023 Macbook Pro - Apple Silicon Apple M2 Max 96GB RAM and 1.83TB free space.

It worked fine before the update, I tried re-recording this very simple action and it still doesn't work.

Cheers SJ

It gets stuck here, in case the screen recording doesn't show.

Hi @SJW7

Since your question is about Photoshop, I have moved this from the Using the Communtiy forum where you posted.

Works fine for me to save as JPEG and save as PSD.

Hi @kubilus

Thanks for highlighting this.

What error message do you see; Is it a blank dialog box? Do you get it while saving a file?

Did you notice this after the update?

You may try resetting Photoshop preferences back to defaults and check if that helps. Here's the article for the steps: https://adobe.ly/3ceal5t

Also, back up the existing Photoshop preferences if you have any custom brushes, action, and workspace: https://adobe.ly/2vNz6FG

We're here to help, need some info.
