Drop down pop up is UNDER the photo instead of behind it. I shouldn't have to move the photo to see the drop down box, right??

This problem is coming from Beta release, and ADOBE team did not fix it, insted now bring it to oficial release. See link below.

Hello all!! I'd like the drop down box for brushes to go OVER the photo instead of behind it. I shouldn't have to move the photo to see the drop down box, right?? I'm hoping it's a simple fix or that I'm just not seeing. Thanks!

Consolidate to tabs.  Your document window is floating in your screen shot.

(Ignore my shortcuts.  They are not standard)

BTW, is that ice cream?  It's very cruel to tease us with a BIG bowl of ice cream when some of us don't happen to have ice cream in the freezer!  😞

After selecting the Brush tool its window appears behind the image. It doesn't matter where the image is in PS, the window shows up behind the image, only the half of it is visible. It worked fine on July 31, I was away for a few days, and now, as I started to work with PS this strange behavior happens.

I have the Tools window oriented vertically on the left side of the screen. When I try to select a pop-up for one of the tools, the pop-up is hidden behind the window where I am editing my photo. This started recently. I just updated to Photoshop (Beta) 25.12.0 yesterday. Photoshop 25.11.0 behaves properly.

If you use a floating document, make sure you float the toolbar as well.
When the toolbar is floating, a "X" mark appears on the toolbar.
If you use a tabbed document, make sure you snap the toolbar to the left.

When I "right click" on top of a image, the tool box appears behind the image on my PS BETA VERSION. It has never happened before and it does not happen in the PS REGULAR VERSION.

When I am on full screen, it also does not happen!

Any "always on top" hidden check I am missing?

Thanks in advance!

Hey, @Alex D Ace. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll help you figure this out. I'll move this to Photoshop-beta for now.

Before anything else, try these steps:

Go to the location of the preference folder mentioned below and rename it to back up. (https://adobe.ly/3u7u84j)
macOS: Hold down the Option key in the Finder when using the Go menu. The library will appear below the current user's home directory.

Library > Preferences > Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings

Rename the Adobe Photoshop folder by adding a .old at the end. (Adobe Photoshop 2024 > Rename > Adobe Photoshop 2024.old)

This will give a fresh start to Photoshop as a new installation.

Let me know if it helps. Thanks!

Hi there @Sameer K !

First of all, thank you very much for your reply and suggestion. Very well thought!

Well, unfortunatly it was not a solution. I have renamed the settings folder for the BETA VERSION as you suggested and when I re-opened PS BERA, a new folder was created whith the previous name. All settings were reset but the tool menu still appears behind the image.

Extending your suggestion, I have duplicated my PS 2024 settings folder and renamed it to the BETA version. I have mentioned that the hidden behind immage tool box does not happen in my FULL VERSION!

Once again, it did not work! Just like the first time, settings were modified, this time to the FULL VERSION, but the tool box is still behind the image when I right click!

I Appreciate your time and would love to hear further ideas!

Kindest regards,

Alex

The temporary workaround is to use a tabbed window instead of a floating window.

It also causes problems with toolbars when using floating windows.

However, this was not an issue before so this is only a temporary workaround until it is fixed.

Dear @silk-m ,

Thanks for your help. The use of a float toolbar DOES HELP when selecting those tools in the floated toolbar.

The solution is partial as top tool bar and "in image" options are still hidden behind the image!

I will keep the floating toolbar and I really appreciate further ideas.

Thanks again,

One more thing I should mention. When I open both PS BETA and PS FULL at the same time, I STILL have the same isue with BETA and it never happened with FULL. BUT, here's something REALLY interesting....  If I right click a image on FULL version, leave the tool option box opened and then I go to the other screen ehere BETA in oppened, If I right click the image, the box works PERFECTLY. I will try to picture it!

In the current Photoshop Beta version, it seems that you can use it without any problems if you don't float the document using the application frame,
and if you want to float the document, don't use the application frame.
For now, why not try using it this way until it's fixed?

Is anyone else having an issue with menus popping up behind the canvas? Things like the tool options, the history, almost anything that's a drop down, slide out menu pops up behind the canvas. For temporary things like picking how the crop will work, it used to open on top of the canvas, you pick whatever, and then it goes away. Now you have to move the canvas around to get to these things.

Is this some new feature I don't undestand, or an option I can turn off?

Thanks!

Tom

See here. It's a known bug but not yet fixed.

As a workaround, don't float documents Canvas when using the Application Frame.
