P: Shake Reduction crashes

LEGEND ,
Dec 09, 2018 Dec 09, 2018

I have two 16gb RAM computers, and on each using Photoshop CC 2019 with the .01 update, when using Shake Reduction in Sharpening, it inevitably seizes up then crashes the program. In addition, when I am asked to file a report, my email address is always reported as wrong when it is the same one Adobe uses to reach me.

We believe we have fixed the issues causing crashing with Camera Shake Reduction. Is anyone still having issues with crashing?

Very bad! This issue has to be solved! The filter is not needed as often as the totally messed up Free transform, but this is just another reason to teach people to NOT update to CC 2019. #verysadstory
Adobe already has my long standing bug-report for this very issue. In 20.0.2 now the filter really crashes Photoshop all the time. Every time the macOS-crashreporter comes up. Only once or twice the Adobe-crash-report-dialog.

I've had that happen off and on, where only Apple's crash report was the one that I could count on popping up. But I'm not crashing my Mac, Olaf.

I know I used it fairly recently, but to me that could mean in the past 3 months or so. I'm absolutely terrible about guessing time.<G> I just ran it on a small file, an old snapshot—just one target area, so I wasn't increasing and decreasing the effect in another area—but it worked flawlessly. Maybe I just got lucky this time. Or maybe, even more likely, I'm not doing something you all are that would push it. I'm running a Mac with nVidia card, not AMD, and High Sierra, not Mojave. And like I said—a small file, nothing taxing. Just a rather blurry face to fix and not a lot of other detail to bother about.

Thanks Olaf for your reference to the "totally messed up Free Transform"; I thought it was me! A far more serious  problem than the Shake Reduction issue, which I now understand is  likely to be a Nvidia driver one. However I'm having problems getting an update that will work on my Mac for my geoforce GTX 680. C'est la vie...

Brand new computer running Win 10 Pro. 32 gig RAM, 8 gig graphics card.
Consistently crashes when using Shake Reduction as well as Lighting Effects.
Extremely, EXTREMELY frustrating and time consuming!!

I have the same issue, I've just posted a separate thread about the Crash Report not recognising my email address

https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/crash-report-form-says-invalid-email-address-...

Is it the same issue?

I had the same issue on my laptop and my desktop. Desktop is Amd and my laptop is Intel. I updated both with the newest updates. I go to open ps version 2019 today on laptop and it just crashed. I couldn’t open a photo. So I gave up on 2019. All drivers are updated as well. I got so tired of the problems I uninstalled the 2019 version today on both computers. I went back to the 2018 version on both computers. No issue with that version.

I am also facing the same problem. How can I get rid of from this problem?
It delays my photo editing process and can't finish my photo editing task.

I've not been using the dread Shake Reduction filter but nevertheless I've had other Photoshop crashes: it's rather like the bad old days unlike the later rock steady updates. Occasional crash reports.

Basically same problem.  I have a file recording my steps with screen shots, but see no way to attach it to this message.

I went back to the 2018 version. No issues there. I don’t have time to mess with 2019. No times waste editing a photo then have it crash and loose all your edits.

I still have absolutely no idea why my Shake Reduction isn't crashing, since it appears to happen on Macs with nVidia, not just AMD users who first posted. Maybe because my laptop is a bit elderly, and so is my video card, obviously?

I couldn't even get Photoshop 2019 20.0.2 to load without crashing. So I reinstalled Win 10 on formatted disk, and 1st thing after it was loaded, was to install Adobe Photoshop.

It would launch, but then I noticed the terrible Free Transform and Crop Tools. Then the crashing from Shake Reduction. While I do like the updated Content Aware Fill, I use Shake Reduction more. It doesn't crash 100%, but I would say maybe 70% or so.

Last solid version was PS 2014, and that's just sad. As I've been saying since the start of the CC line, we are nothing buy Alpha Testers. I wish PS was ALL Plug-In, so we could mix and match solid working parts, and pull out poorly conceived modules.

Both 20.0.1 and .2  crashed often when running Shake Reduction. I followed Jeff Tranberry's advice and updated the graphics drivers (NVida on one computer, AMD on another) and there are still crashes, but far fewer. I see Adobe has .3 ready for me to download and install ("to address serious bugs reported ..." ). We'll see if this is one of them when I get my courage screwed to the sticking post (Macbeth).

The .3 version also crashed for me, and a crash report was filed.

I would file a crash report (I keep trying) but the system still refuses to recognize the email address that it uses to send me Photoshop Family (and everything else from Adobe) or the private address Jeff gave me.

Can you add me to the list too ... pretty much the same as everyone else. No communication ... Constant crashing.

It's becoming increasingly difficult to rely on adobe updates, which are forced when collaborating with other people. I'd much prefer NOT adding features that are broken. So much time wasted in trying to sort out issues that it makes me wish I kept my 2014 version

Definitely 2014 was the best version. Why can't they add new features as plugins? I'd love to use 2014 with the new Content Aware interface. Boom, done. No more slow brushes, no more crashes.

It appears that the Patch tool set to Content Aware crashes regularly too, on my PC. Anyone else experiencing that?

I don't usually use it, but now that I need to, I can't. This is annoying beyond words.

I wasn't able to find any crash logs from you. Please submit all Crash Reports along with your email address: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/submit-crash-reports.html I can check and see if it's something on our radar.

I am seeing constant crashes when using Shake Reduction. Have restarted the computer several times and the crashes continue. Sometimes I get a stall during the first kernel calculation. I can still move the window around and click on Cancel which does not kill the Shake Reduction window (this bug seems linked to choosing the hover preview window which initially opens over the sliders). Other times, it will run normally but crash entire PS when I apply I hit OK.

mac High Sierra
PS 20.0.4

Files are around 40MP. They are all DNG from LR using Enhance Details debayer. 16-bit, prophotoRGB.

Sorry to learn it's happening on Macs as well as Windows machines. It remains a problem through all of the iterations of PS 2019 .1-.4. Topaz's new AI sharpener does a great job, doesn't crash and integrates directly into PS as a plug-in, but it is a huge program and runs very slowly. Adobe keeps asking me to submit crash reports, but it seems to always reject my required email address, even though it's the one to which they send their requests.
