P: Unknown error when saving GIF

Hi I am trying to save my layers as a GIF in Photoshop. The layers are JPEG files I've drawn myself so aren't from an existing video.

I am using "Export save for web" but everytime I try to save the file an error message pops up. It reads "Could not complete this operation. An unknown erro has occured."

I have tried reducing the pixel size so the image is now 566x800px, but that hasn't made a difference. The error message still appears.

Can anyone please help?

Hi, I am still getting the error and I have recently updated. I have tried all the previous fixes and nothing is working, is there any additional suggestions to allow me to save my gif files??

Hi Everyone,

I keep getting a Adobe Save for Web Error whenever I try and create a gif from my after effects mp4 video. I have encoded the video, I have tried save for web, I have tried the import frames to layers. Nothing seems to work. The video dimensions are 1080x1080. I have updated my photoshop but I have not updated my mac IOS system in a long while, could this be the issue?

Hello,

I have the same issue for over a year now...

I just updated to the MacOS Monterey version 12.0.1 and to Photoshop 2022 version 23.0.2. I also desintalled and reinstalled Photoshop just now. It still doesn't work.

Please help, I cannot work like this.

Try to change the GIF resolution to lower size. I had solved my problem by
doing that. Like if you were saving the file in 1920*1080 resolution try
now with 1080*720 now.

If you are stsill getting a Unknown Error, please share the following items so we can troubleshoot:

1) The PSD you're trying to save for web from (use CC files or dropbox to share a link to download the file)

2) Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

@christines6261898 Thanks for the file. It exports fine as a gif using Save for Web. That said, I think the problem may be with the Linked Smart Objects that are missing from the file. Could you either embed them or zip them up and share them, too? They might be the key to reproducing your issue.

I still can't repro. Ahh. I see now. You're not seeing the issue on this thread. You're seeing "A write permissions error has occurred" - Are you using Dropbox? See: https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-bugs/p-save-for-web-quot-a-write-permissions-erro...

If not, have you tried saving to you desktop or documents folder? Make sure you've given Photoshop disk access/permissions:

No way! I´ve only googled the first sentence "Could not complete this operation" not including "A write permissions error has occurred". Thanks for helping me look for answers elsewhere. I´ve done the tip on the other thread without success, but the workaround from pacek96810431 helped.

Just recently got this error (Mac 12.2.1 (21D62), PSD 23.3.2) and was able to fix it by changing to selective.

Problem solved.

After "Export save for web" press the "Preview" button and when it opens on the browser right-click on the .gif and "Save Image As..." will save it as a .gif file.
