Photoshop 23.2 Freezing on large PSDs

Hi all

While working on a biggish PSD in Photoshop 23.2, I've had the app freeze and become unresponsive when trying to add and adjust a new levels layer.

For reference the file is about 28x48cm at 600dpi and has 26 layers, some of which have a lot of applied layer styles. I'm on a 2019 27" iMac, running Monterey with 40GB RAM.

The odd thing is that the Mac OS doesn't see the app as unresponsive (ie: 'is not responding') no matter how long I leave it.

I've tried various options (flushing caches, changing scratch disks, unenabling graphics card) short of a full clean install of the app and have chosen to downgrade to the previous availoable version of Photoshop 23.1.1.

This seem to fix the problem, so I think I'll have to wait on 23.2.1 before upgrading again!

Hope that helps if someone else has the same issue.

I'm having the same issue, regardless of file size, but for me its in the layer style menu, especially when i add pattern overlay and try to adjust the pattern scale. I'm running 2021 Macbook Pro with M1 Max

Could you share a file that you're having trouble with and which layer to edit to trigger the problem? Use CC files or dropox to share a link to the PSD.

Hi Jeffrey

Sorry: didn't get notified of your reply.

I can't share the file publicly, unfortunately, as it's a client artwork that's just gone to print.

Do you still need this, or have you managed to replicate the issue?

If you do still need it, do you have a non-public way that I could send it?

Hi Jeffrey

Yes, that sounds like it.

Okey dokey: will stick with 23.1.1 for now.

Look forward to a fix in 23.2.1! 🙂

I have a similar problem, I noticed mine whenever I went to adjust the hue-saturation. The menu pops up, and then it just sits there and I can't do anything.

Yes. I uninstalled the latest version and went back a version. Problem fixed.
