3D Text in Multiple Colors using Photoshop cc 2015

I am using Adobe Photoshop cc 2015, is it possible to extrude text in multiple colours as I can't seem to do this even if my text shows in multiple colours in the layer as soon as I extrude it into 3d it adjusts to one colour.

For example I am not referring to gradients therefore I mean R in colour red e in colour blue and d in colour white.

This sounds very simple but the only way I can do this is by creating a layer for each letter and then extruding it then lining it up to the previous letter.

Is it possible to select what letters you want in the specific colour rather than having to make them all the same colour etc.

I think I am missing something really simple but any help on this would be great.

Go to properties for the front inflation material.

Click on the little folder next to Diffuse and choose New Texture

When the texture opens put a colour over each letter using the UV map as a guide

This will colour the front of each letter

Note: Although you can use the same method with the extrusion material, the UV is more complex and an easier way is to make each letter a separate 3D object . Each will initially be on it's own layer - but you can merge the layers and group the objects so they can be scaled and moved together.

You can change the color of the front, back, and sides (all sides one color) by changing the selecting the extrusion material and then changing the diffuse color.

Thank you for this but how would I select just one letter rather than the whole text?ie just just the colour of T in Text
