Adding markers to an image of a map

I have an image of a state map. I need to mark 6 city locations with a 5 point star. Is there a way to insert an image of a star without drawing it?

Use the polygon shape tool.

In the options bar set to 5 sides and in the cogwheel drop down click "Star" and set the indent value

Set a stroke and fill colour and thickness as required

Drag out your start on the canvas
