Assigned Keyboard Shortcuts and User Actions

I'm on Mac OS Monterey 12.3, and Photoshop 2022 WILL NOT allow keyboard shortcuts to activate a user action, despite being assigned the shortcut. The only way I can activate an action I've created is to press the play button on the action panel.

I've uninstalled and re-installed Photoshop, cleared user prefs, nothing works. I've tried creating various actions, then assigning shorts. This wasn't an issue with the latest version of Photoshop on Big Sur about a month ago.

On macOS, it reserves may of the function keys for the OS. Are you holding down the Fn/Function key + Cmd + F2?

To avoid any conflicts like you described, I have disabled ALL of the System keyboard shortcuts for this very reason.

(System Preferences / Keyboard / Shortcuts)

Thank you - that fixes it. The fn button wasn't necessary with Big Sur, and I'm new to Monterey, so it must be a Mometery thing. I appreciate the help.

A second way to solve it is to change the behavior of your function keys so that you need to hold down the fn key for brightness and sound, but they act like standard function keys. I do this within the first hour of setting up any new Mac.

• Apple menu  > System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard
• Select "Use F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys".

You have to do this every time you set up a new Mac.

It can also be done with Windows laptops (in case others come across this thread), but the procedure is not standard for PCs — it varies by manufacturer.

You're welcome, Josh, and I'm glad this solution works for you. 

It is not a bug in Photoshop (or in macOS Monterey), though, as I do this on every Mac I've ever owned or worked on, as well as on my Windows laptop that I had to buy at the start of the pandemic. I'll move this from "Bugs" to "Discussions".
