Please read this (in particular the section titled "Supply pertinent information for more timely and effective answers”):
https://community.adobe.com/t5/using-the-community/community-how-to-guide-tips-amp-best-practices/td...

Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible so one can see if Layers and Channels represent content despite the Canvas appearing empty?

What have you done for all-purpose trouble-shooting so far?
Restoring Preferences after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved might be a good starting point:

I really don't know what screen shots you are asking for?   I've used PS now for 30 years to successfully edit my photography but am not very technical.  I can't understand why this is happening. There mut be something I turned off or on that is creating this image blackout perhaps in the Prefences?

Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences (Photoshop > Preferences > Performance > Graphic Processor Settings) and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?
Does turning on »Deactivate Native Canvas« (Photoshop > Preferences > Technology Previews) and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?

I turned off the Graphic Processr as suggested and the problem disappeared.  When I turned it on again, the problem returned.   Eon't I  be losing many PS feartures if I keep it turned off?  Is there anything else  I can do to restore those PS features.  Thank you for your help.

So you have narrowed down part of the problem.

Turn the GPU back on and quit/restart Photoshop.

Did you try the other common suggestion from @c.pfaffenbichler

"Does turning on »Deactivate Native Canvas« (Photoshop > Preferences > Technology Previews) and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?"

Even with native canvas disabled, I have found that I sometimes have to zoom out many times, then zoom back in to clear some rendering issues.

Disabling native canvas may be all that is needed, without totally turning off the GPU. Also, note that there are advanced GPU options which you can try turning off while still keeping the GPU on.

i just turned on again "Use Graphics Processor" and the problem did NOT reappear. Does that mean the probem is solved and can you explain what caused the problem in the first place?   I appreciate all your help and in this case I wish I were more technically proficient.

How is that possible when I pay the monthly fee to use PS and up until recently, iit was eegualrly upgraded online.  I just checked and my PS app was not installed on my computer so I just did that.  I don't understand, doesn't Adobe notify of opgrades to their apps anymore?  I'd appreciate if you could explain how this happened.. Perhaps I did something from my end to create this situation.  Again, thank for your time nad assistance.

Is »Deactivate Native Canvas« available now?

And does it make a difference for the original issue?

The original issue seems resolved either way – whether or not "Deactivate Native Canvas" is checked.  I tried them both.  Was this simply a problem of the older version of PS.  Again, why wasn't PS  and LrC not updated like my other Adobe apps?

Hi, please post the contents of Photoshop's Help>System Info... menu, so that we get to know your OS, its version, the exact version of Photoshop you are running, the date of the GPU driver, etc.
If your post disappears, do not repost it, as it might need to be approved by a moderator. As an alternative you can save it to a .txt file on your computer and attach it on your answer via the forum. (attachments do not post from e-mail)
