Brush delay in Photoshop - 3 years old bug still not fixed

Engaged ,

Note : I edited this first message for clarity's sake and in order to be the more complete possible.

Hi, there are at least 2 other topics relating this bug but they seem to have been left behind so I take the liberty to open a new one. The bug is simple to describe : when you use a brush with pen pressure in Photoshop, there's a delay between the moment you press your pen against the glass of your tablet and the moment a dot appear on your file in photoshop. The only way to work around this bug is to check the "airbrush" option.

Here are the links to the other topics talking about it :
https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/brush-stroke-delay-not-lag-brush-stro...
https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/can-t-draw-dots-or-very-small-things-...

Here is a video I took showing the problem (first the airbrush option is on, then it's off, notice the difference as I press on the tablet with the pen and no dot appears directly - I chose especially a brush with pen pressure from the default "general brushes") :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKqQVGNnPi8

Here is another video took by the user Pixium explaining the problem : https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/brush-stroke-delay-not-lag-brush-stro...

I use Windows 11 with an Intel Core i7-10700 CPU, 16 Go of Ram, and a NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3070 graphic card, and Photoshop 26.5.

I already contacted Adobe assistance about this bug. The last time was this february. The technician went as far as taking control of the computer and could witness the bug himself but was not able to solve it. I have the chat report available for those interested.
The bug is real, please help. Thank you.

To help visualize the problem, here are 2 videos I filmed on my phone. I'm drawing on a wacom cintiq pro 16 with a wacom pro pen slim.
I'm using the same brush at a size 35 px and working on a file with a zoom of 71%.
With airbrush/build-up option OFF :

With airbrush/build-up option ON :

You can see that the brush is more responsive with the airbrush turned on...

I think that this bug appeared many versions ago but I don't think it existed on Photoshop CS (I'm not particularly sure about that, though)...

@Chad RolfsSorry Chad, have you seen this ? It seems that I'm not the only one experiencing it.

It may depend on the brush preset you are using.  There are so many variables at play when you consider all the options/settings in Brush Settings (Shape Dynamics, tilt, pressure, scatter, etc).  Depending on what brush preset you use, it may take a more aggressive tap to get a dot or you may need to adjust a particular setting. Do you experience this if you use the Hard Round preset from the default General Brushes?

Actually I experience it also with the general brushes when they're pressure sensitive (see the one highlighted there : )proofpressure.jpg

Using that brush, I see different size dots depending on how hard I tap down but I can still easily create dots without having to move the stylus.  Have you changed your wacom stylus tip sensitivity/pressure curve?   Also, are you using WinTab (UseSystemStylus 0 in PSUserConfig.txt) or just WinInk?

My first message was from 2023 and I changed tablets since then (still wacom though) but I still experience the same problem.
I tried with WinTab and WinInk and there's no difference. The problem is not being able to create dots it's the different response time between the brush with the airbrush option and without : without you have to press harder and longer whereas with the airbrush option the brush "connect" to the screen right when you put the pen nib to the screen. Try with or without the option and see if you experience a difference in response.

@Chad Rolfs Here is another video from this morning to maybe help better visualize the problem. I'm using the brush from the general brushes highlighted in my previous message, at 250 px. Notice especially the last dot (with airbrush option off) : I'm pressing on the screen with the pen and the dot just appears at the end, not when I start pressing, whereas it appears right when I'm pressing on the screen when the airbrush option is checked at the beginning :

Any news on that ? I tried tthose "fixes" ( https://www.reddit.com/r/photoshop/comments/wug0b1/fix_photoshop_brush_lag_for_good/ )but it made no difference. Anyway if there's no lag when the airbrush option is on it means that there's not a lag "by default" which would be due to the GPU, yes ?

Well, I asked the support service and they said it was supposed to act like this (sounds weird)... I just use my brush with the airbrush option on from now on.

@Chad RolfsActually it's the same problem as this one https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/brush-stroke-delay-not-lag-brush-stro...
though as i mentioned before the windowsink/wintab thing is not the solution.
Also mentioned here https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/photoshop-cc-2018-brush-delay-on-star...
The "enable airbrush option" is always mentioned as a workaround, too.

I see that my new topic has been merged with this old one. I hope it doesn't mean that my message is now buried in the history.
Please can someone offer a solution to this bug ??

Hello! A potential fix to this issue will be in the 26.9 release of Photoshop. The fix is currently in the Beta release. I hope it addresses your issue. Thank you for bringing it to our attention!
