Can't edit my Layers in photoshop.

I have been trying to edit some pictures in photoshop but if I try to edit in any layer that is not on the top of the heirarchy non of them works, just the one at the top. For example: if I have a layer for "burn", one for "dodge" and one for the "stamp tool" the only editable layer is which ever is at the top of the list. Then if I move any other layer to the top to edit on that one, the corrections on the one that got moved down disappeard.

Can you post a screenshot with the Layers panel expanded and visible?

If you have an image open in Photoshop and it is duplicated several times, only the topmost layer will be visible. The rest of them will be covered by the topmost layer and invisible. In the Layers panel, which is usually located in the bottom right of the work area, layers are arranged in a stack.

In this example I'm trying to edit a portrait so I did a High Frequency Separation. I do my dodge and burn on their respective layers, patch tool on the texture layer and stamp tool on the color layer. Normaly I could click on any layer and work at will regarless of the visibility or where they are in the list and I will see the corrections happening. Now, if the layer I want to work on is not the top most, it will not work, wont make any correction/editing to the photo. Then if I move that layer to the top, the corrections made on the other layer disappear.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post if it helps you get responses.
