I cannot use the "edit in"—edit in Adobe PS 2023. This problem just started occuring today Jan . 8th. I have no idea what changed . I have 24.1.0 PS and 12.1 LR. I have seen conflicting answers with several people having the same issue. Do I in fact have to reinstall PS? If so, how do I perform a soft install? Thank you in advance.

Are you getting any particular error messages? Could you please post a screen shot?
Have you tried restarting the programs and your computer?

No errors. When I hit edit in and choose edit in ps 2023, PS will open but the image does not open. Yes, I did restart all the programs and rebooting the PC.

Do you see warning in the top right corner of image you are trying to edit? I think there is warning. Test with second, fift and sixt image in filmstrip.

No, no warning. I have tried various images, from other folders too.
This is where I am at this morning. Saved all my preferences, and actions (just to make sure) , reset preferences, reboot PS. Will advise.

Exclamation mark in top right corner means photo is missing, in your case it seems you have metadata conflict. Still can not reproduce your problem.
Turn on Preset Syncing in Preferences > General to automatically sync brushes, patterns.... When reinstalling Photoshop it won't delete custom Actions, safest option is to save them somewhere on your computer then to reload them after reinstalling.

Yes, I did notice that. I am no longer using that folder (because of that factor) I wanted to make sure that was not the issue. Using other folders. Yes, I have saved all my actions and the preference settings folder. I fear uninstalling both LR and PS and ending up with the same issue.

Thank you. Just turned on the Preset syncing. I did not even realize that was an option. Yes, good option to have turned on for future.

No problem to edit image in Photoshop 24.1.0 from Lightroom 12.1. On my end I do not see options
- Edit with Lightroom Adjustments
- Edit a Copy
- Edit the original.

That is normal. You will only see these choices if you send an RGB image, not if you send a raw image.

I used to see these options, and yes only when I had previously edited the image. I send raw images all the time. I have been using both LR and PS since 2017. No errors, PS opens but never open the image I requested to be edited.

Thats correct. I just checked, first three files are raw then next 30 are JPEG in my Lightroom filmstrip. I have tested two of them, it seems both were raw files. Everything works fine. Statement that error can not be reprocuded is still valid.

reset the preferences, started PS, was able to go into LR and it worked for several images. As soon as I closed PS and reopened and tried to "edit in" from LR again, it hangs . I was able to reload my saved preferences, and PS looked OK, but still does not work. Just hangs. No errors in LR or in PS. Here is recent screen shot.

After deleting the preferences, loading my old settings back in, running a scan, and NOT editing the most recent image folder (that I was trying to edit last night when this problem started) it seems to work. I can go to various folders and edit both RAW files and previously PS edited files. No hang ups so far. I have deleted the folder with the missing data, just in case that was my issue. I wish to thank you all for your help. Not sure if it is steady but for now it is working. Vivi Wyngaarden

I never had a problem with this either. I have been using both LR and PS since 2017. It is not that I do not see options, when I hit "Edit In" and edit in PS 2023, PS opens but does not open the image:

In MODIFICA cosa in particolare non riesci ad utilizzare? Quello che è scomparso è"Elimina e riempi" , ma non sembra altro. Sono dei bug, già segnalati come il non riuscire più a visualizzare i "MATERIALI" aspettiamo un nuovo aggiornamento che ripristini tali funzioni. Ma cerca di essere precisa in modo da vedere se è un problema personale o può riguardare tutti! Grazie mille

I will be specific. I apologize. When I am in LR and I want to edit that image in PS. I right click and choose "edit in" Edit in PS 2023, at that time PS opens the program. When I go to PS, the program is open but the image will not appear. Even if I use the menu keys up top, "photo" edit in....the image will still not open in PS.
Please note, PS works, I can just no longer open from LR. This is something that is extremely common for me to do. It just stopped working yesterday Jan. 8 2023.
No changes were made to either program. Not sure when the programs were automatically updated to 12.1 for LR and 24.1.0 for PS.

If 'Edit in Photoshop' is dimmed, then the most likely explanation is that the original photo is 'missing' in Lightroom Classic, for example because it is on a drive that is currently offline. You may not notice it if you have smart previews. Lightroom Classic can edit the image using the smart preview, but it cannot send a smart preview to Photoshop. It does need access to the original for that.

No, the edit options is not greyed out. It is there and acts as though I can edit the image. In fact, PS opens at that time. No image will open. I have been using both PS and LR for years. I am editing a RAW file and have never had issues with that.

I read your link. This is very similiar to my problem. Will try to reset my preferences in PS first. If that does not work, it looks like I will need to reinstall PS. I am reading about soft install. Not sure what that means unless it simply means NOT to uninstall PS first, just install over my PS? I hate to lose all my Actions and settings. I will research how to save all of them first.

Saved preferences, deleted the preferences, restarted PS results: worked for the first image I choose to edit In. It was from another folder AND an image I had already edited in PS. Worked great. Went back to another folder and tried that. PS just opens up and hangs. Will probably reset the preferences again and try it again. I think I am looking at reinstalling ps. Question: how do I perform a soft install? thank you inadvance.

After deleting preferences, restart , I can open PS and edit in for images. Works fine, but as soon as I close down PS and try the operation again, it fails. By fail, I mean it just opens PS and does not open the "edit In" image as requested. I copied over my settings from my saved Adobe preferences and can see all the images that I had previously edited. Actually looks ok, but again, I cannot edit from LR.
