If i  name the file with a ending that is not the same as the file type i choose, when if has been saved, it's file ending is what i named, but it's true file type is the type i choose.

Photoshop should safeguard against this mistake as long as you select the format last after first typing in the filename.

How many files have mismatching formats vs. their filename extension? Do you know what the true extension should be?

Thank you.The true extension is the file type I choose. But the format last (*.MPO) can make the filename typed work.

You have marked my reply as correct, so I am glad that this helped?

If you need to rename many files to include the correct filename extension, then Adobe Bridge or other software can help.

No need to reply if you are happy!
