Color changes when opening to photoshop from lightroom

Community Beginner ,
Jun 02, 2018 Jun 02, 2018

When I go to 'edit in' in lightroom and it then opens to photoshop the colors are different. The blacks are deeper and the saturation is up by at least 10. If I just have photoshop open the image without going through lightroom the colors are just fine. This started happening after the last update. My color space is the same in both programs. Help please!

Thank you both for your suggestions!! I finally figured it out after hours! So when I updated to the newest version of lightroom the old version was still installed and it was corrupting the new program. I uninstalled the old version and now the new version is working without any color differences. I'm so happy this is solved.

Hard to say without seeing screenshots, and more information. There are several possibilities.

Are Camera Raw and Lightroom both updated to the same, corresponding version level? They need to be with this last update because some changes were made to camera profiles. If they're not at the same level, there will be inconsistencies.

Are you using more than one display?

Have you changed anything in Lightroom Preferences > External Editing, and/or Photoshop Color Settings?

There is no particular reason color settings in Lightroom and Photoshop should match. At default settings, the embedded profile out of Lightroom will be preserved in Photoshop. That's one good reason you shouldn't change anything without knowing what you're doing.

They are both updated to the .14 version. I am only using one display. I have changed them after the issue started happening but they are both back to what they were which is Prophoto. It is only happening when opening from Lightroom. I can open from bridge just fine, no issues. Hopefully you can see what I am talking about in the image. I literally opened it in photoshop and hit save and you can see it is actually changing the photo to be more saturated when I haven't done anything. It feels like when you apply import settings in Lightroom and its an auto adjustment but I didn't think there was anything like that in photoshop.Example.jpg

What exactly are we looking at here? What's on the left and what's on the right? File type (raw / tiff) and color profile?

Right is the original raw file cr.2 and the left the result of me right clicking the original photo(right photo) selecting edit in photoshop and then selecting save immediately once in photoshop. No adjustments were made while it was open in photoshop. The result is a tiff file that is shown in the left photo. Both are prophoto color profile. Photoshop does have the setting on to use embeded profile. I have tried turning off an on but both have the same result.

OK, thanks. To me this looks very much like the camera profile mismatch, caused by Lightroom and ACR not being at exactly the same version. Can you check again what exact dot release version each is?

I assume you know that when you "edit in Photoshop" from Lightroom, the raw file is actually opened by ACR, with settings passed on from Lightroom. This is why the two need to be fully equivalent.

I did know that which is why I first went checking the profiles to make sure they matched up before seeking help. Wanted to give the obvious stuff a try first. lol. Thank you for helping!

Is there maybe something in ACR that I can change that I don't know about?

You need to update ACR separately from Photoshop. It should be at 10.3, and Lightroom at 7.3.1:

Photoshop may be using Adobe RGB as the standard ICC profile and the rules can be set to ignore embedded profiles, thus the difference.  Open Photoshop.  Go to Color Settings and make sure they are correct.  Save them as you would like them.

Open Bridge, and go to color settings Load and and Syncronize the saved settings.   See if that helps the problem.
