When I select all and copy merged, the resulting pasted image is slightly different in color. This occurs in the same document so rules out any color profile issue/

Are you viewing at 100% when you see the color shift?

Can you share a sample file that exhibits this behavior? (Share link to CC file or Dropbox)

This was my mistake. I created the image @ 50%. The copy>merge>paste altered the color of the image

But when viewed at 100%, the paste is the same as the layers below. The color of the image shifted drastically when viewed at anything below 60% or so.

That's because the image is very noisy or "binary". Blending/adjustment previews are calculated based on the on-screen/zoomed out image. This downsampled version contains a lot of intermediate pixel values that aren't there in the original data.

So the preview can be misleading, unless you view at 100%. Then each single pixel is mapped and previewed accurately.

In a "normal" photograph this isn't an issue, it just happens when you have very abrupt and sharp pixel-level transitions.

I noticed a very strange color shift problem when trying out photoshop 2022 on my new MBP.

OS X 12.2

PS 23.1

I take an image with gradient, apply a clipped gradient map to it, then select all > copy merge > paste.

The colours shift in the resulting pasted image in the same document. This only seems to happen on certain color gradients, not all of them. I included a screenshot of the gradient preset I used(stock) and also included the original gradient file I used.

Not enough info in your screenshot. Are you viewing at 100%?

Hi. Does the color shift affect the whole image or just some areas?
