Create Blinking Text in Photoshop

Did something change? I used to be able to make a blinking text .gif in Photoshop by using frame animation. The first frame is the original artwork, then I would copy the first frame and then I would make sure I was clicked on the second frame and then chage the color of the layers I wanted changed. Easy Peasy, done.  If I try and do these steps now, when I try and change frame 2 it changes the orignal file as well.  I've seen several videos out there where they make differnt group layers for each change.  This seems like a lot of work compared to the way it used to work and seems like it will make your file a lot bigger in the long run.  So, what changed or is there something I am missing.  I got it to work by making 5 differen't goup layers, but again it will make the file size bigger and it takes longer.

Thanks in advance,

Mel

Nothing has changed. In a Photoshop frame animation, any frame can show any layer(s). So you just need to ensure that when you select a frame in the timeline, the appropriate layer(s) you want visible in that frame are enabled with the eye icons in the layers panel.

Try have red wording on frame 1, and switching it to blue wording on frame 2.  When I do this it switches both of them to blue.

Do you have a red text layer switched on in frame 1 and a separate blue text layer in frame 2 . If you are just changing the colour of a single layer then both frames will look the same because they will both show whatever is on the layer they are pointed at when the frame animation is run.
