P: Color Distortion When Opening Images saved from Facebook in Photoshop 26.5

After updating to the latest version of Photoshop, we encountered an issue where images saved from Facebook from the previous year display color distortions when opened in the program. However, images saved recently from Facebook open without any issues and display correctly.

Visual glitches in Photoshop are often related to graphics card issues. Could you let us know which version of Photoshop you're using and what macOS version you're on?

The issues have been repeatedly confirmed by the Adobe’s engineers. Why they don't chime in on this thread I do not know.

All Mac M1-4 computers are affected. However how this bug presents itself seems to vary from platform to platform as is noted in this reply from the Adobe Engineering Dept.:

“With the details engineering captured during our last meeting, we did some more testing and we are noticing different behaviours across different platforms Mac Intel, Mac Silicon and Windows machine and this is turning out into a really complex issue.”

It doesn't happen every day, but upon startup this morning the issue is back in both Photoshop and Photoshop Beta. 

 
i upgraded to the latest version of Photoshop Beta and restarted my computer and still no fix.

“The GPU proofing issue you’re encountering, particularly its impact on rendering shadow detail is something that has been formally acknowledged and escalated to the appropriate engineering teams. The team at ACE is actively investigating it. My Photoshop just started importing my photos weirdly. I bring them in from a folder where they look fine and then they get imported and look like this 

Doesn't matter what format, jpeg, png's etc. What's happened?

Hi, could you help please. I have an issue where photoshop is opening JPGs with strange grey lines down one side and a blueish colour in the background. It appears to be only some images. I have checked guide lines etc and also layers.

The jpgs open fine in other image programs as per the attached image.

Any suggestions most appreciated please.

I think this is a known issue with jpegs downloaded from certain social media specifically (not jpegs in general).

I have been experiencing the same issue as the rest of you. Been having it for many months now on a photos downloaded from Facebook (unsure if this might happen elsewhere too). I have noticed that most photos uploaded on photo editing groups does not have this problem - and folks there uploads the original file from their computer. 

One way around this is to also open the picture in finder and then mark the photo and paste it over the photo in Photoshop and then save it will solve it - it will not appear with this distortion. However I am unsure if there might be affecting the "quality" and resolution so I save it as a new file with a slightly new name (maybe adding "-B" to indicate it is n ot the original picture file you uploaded), but I do notice the bit size of this "new" photo goes up...

By the way @Sameer K does this only happen from photos uplaoded from Facebook ? I know that FB tends to downsize (dimentions) and resolution - so maybe that might explain why these things are happening (that it might mess up something else with the files somehow).....

Hi brita.  If you think about it, you have given almost nothing to go on.  There is not the slightest chance of a good answer when there is zero information to go on.   

We need a much more detailed description of what is happening?

We can see you are using Windows. Is it version 10 or 11?

What version of Photoshop?

When did this start happening and does it correlate with other events like new software, hardware, updates etc.

This possibly sounds like a previously reported issue with JPEG images downloaded from certain social media platforms such as FB, when opened in Photoshop they have lines/mauve colour. Until Adobe addresses this, opening the JPEG via Adobe Camera Raw or other software and resaving before opening in Photoshop is the suggested workaround.

The most current version I just updated yesterday. Where do I find that information.? 

It does not correlate with any updates that I can tell.
