Direct select tool converts to type tool

Is there any way of preventing the direct selection tool converting to the type editing tool when you click on text? It is incredibly annoying to click on a text block to move it and having the tool automatically assume I want to edit the text.

    I cannot reproduce the issue, could you post meaningful screenshots to illustrate?

    And why do you use the Direct Selection Tool and not the Move Tool?

    I meant the move tool. It is quiet vexing as it does not happen every time. I will click on an item. Then try to move it. The item will then not move (or at least not in real time. I will click it again and the type will highlight and the tool will convert to the type tool. Normally I would say this is a hesitation due to a slow computer however I am using a brand new Macbook pro 16 with 64GB of RAM.

    I cannot reporoduce that without double-clicking and even then hitting esc will return to the Move Tool.
