Hello. I recently purchased a subscription for Photoshop CC 2017, after my trial for CS6 ran out. In CS6, my graphics card, the Intel HD 4000, had some problems, but I was able to fix them and the features that required it worked again. I have upgraded, both due to the trial and since I am planning to start my work as a graphic designer in a week or two. But the CC program doesn't recognize my card, they checkbox is grayed out and some features do not work. This does not hinder me too much, but I am constantly learning new features and tricks for Photoshop, and I am bound to need them, and some useful features, like the eyedropper wheel, are now gone. So, am I able to use this card, or will I have to upgrade? Thank you!
The problem has been fixed! Before I asked this question, I tried updating my drivers from the Intel website, but the system rejected the drivers, so I assumed they were up to date. I even tried updating from the Device Manager, and it said everything was up to date. I then searched why the drivers were rejected, and the website went through a procedure that updated the drivers and Photoshop finally recognizes and uses the card! I can't thank you both enough for helping me through this ordeal. H

Odd. I have the Intel HD 4000 in my 2012 Macbook Pro and my Dell running Windows 10. Both are Laptops and do fine on Photoshop CC 2017, even running OpenCL and Oil Paint.
You may want to see how much memory is assigned to the card 1-2 GB and and if your Intel drivers are up to date.
Get them directly from the Intel website. Drivers & Software
While the HD 4000 is ok, if you can upgrade your card, do that. Use one of the tested cards listed in the FAQ.

My drivers are all up to date. I have 1792 MB available graphics memory, but only 32 MB is dedicated to the GPU. May that be the problem? And I doubt that I can change the card. My laptop is the HP EliteBook 8470p. Best option if we can't fix this is to get a new laptop.

Yes. It is currently at 60%.

You may need more ram. This HP has 4 GB and is leaving Photoshop with about 2 GB and less for video. You need at least 1 GB for video. 8 GB is recommended for any PC running Photoshop.

On my system information window, it says I have 8 GB of installed memory. Is that the memory you are talking about?

Better yet, go to Help >System Info, click on the Copy button and Paste (Ctrl v) the resullts in your reply. It will give me the tech information I need.

I think you were right back up the thread when you spoke about getting a new laptop. Looking at the spec below, you have two cores and just 4Gb RAM, and I suspect that the HD4000 is using some of the system RAM. That leaves you with nowhere near enough RAM to use Photoshop comfortably, and with a woefully under performing graphics. If you plan on doing this for a living, then you need the tools for the job. You don't need to go crazy, but you need more than you have at the moment IMO.

I see 8 GB of ram in the System Report, not the standard 4GB and video ram looks to be plenty enough at 2 GB to support the HD 4000. What I am noticing is OpenGL being off and a OpenGL driver date of 2015.
It should run CC 2017 easy, but something is off on the card drivers.

Sorry Gene. I couldn't bring myself to trawl through the Sys Info, and just went by the System Specs I found. Are you thinking that the HD4000 is a stand alone card, or integral to the motherboard? I guess I should man up and read the sys info. 😞

That's better than mine. Is the 3D slider 100% like mine? Can you adjust it there?
If you can't, OpenGL is disabled. and you should see if the "use Graphics Processor" checkbox is ticked on in Preferences > Performance.
If so, click on Advanced and report your settings.

On laptops, Trevor, the HD 4000 is "glued in" with no options to install high performance aftermarket cards.

The slider is at 100%, but I can't change it. And the "use Graphics Processor" checkbox is grayed out and I can't interact with it. And if you mean the Advanced Button under the Graphics Processor checkbox, it is grayed out as well.

Ok, that means Photoshop's GPU Sniffer is not picking up your card which it should. It then disables the GPU option which in turn disables 3D.
That usually means the drivers are outdated or buggy.
You could check with intel for the latest drivers, or as some cases go, your HP uses customized Intel drivers, you can also check with HP.
The HD4000 driver I see in the system report is 9.17.10.4229 is for Windows 7/8 and is dated 2015. I'm running Windows 10.
Trevor, please chime in, I feel as if I am not noticing something.

Hopefully, anyone else with this problem will come across this and take your advice. Once again, thank you!
