Error 2: photoshop is undefined.
Line:1
->
I keep getting this error when going to & from Photoshop (24.1)& Lightroom (12.1)
Any Ideas?
Also more often than not Photoshop dosent open the image I've sent from Lightroom via "Edit in Photoshop 2023" it just boots it up and it sits there on the 'Home' screen (it works if I send it as a smart object however)
UPDATE; finding something similar happening now since v25 of photoshop update. Says it wants to open it in the Beta - even though I've already uninstalled it. - boots v25 after complaining 🤷🏼

Reset your preferences. Hold Command+Option+Shift then select the icon to open Photoshop.
It should ask to confirm you want to delete your preferences.

Hi, Kevin I've tried your suggestion on both photoshop & Lightroom - still cant get photoshop to open the image sent from photoshop and I need it to do that first before I can close the file in photoshop to get this error I keep getting 80% of the time. I'll keep tryimg to get it to that state.
Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Actually managed 'via open as smart object' - It starts saving out of photoshop then at 99% this error returns. Grrrrr

If the reset didn't work you need to uninstall, run the cleaner and do a fresh install. The Error 2 notes a corruption in the software, normally a reset can fix minor items, but for bigger issues (like you are experiencing) a reinstall is needed.
Do you happen to have any third party plugins installed?
1. Go to Creative Cloud desktop/Apps and select the ellipses (...) next to Photoshop and choose uninstall.
Remove preferences when asked (checkbox).
2. Download the Adobe CC Cleaner Tool and run to remove PS resources.
3. Download and reinstall Creative Cloud and then Photoshop.

Thanks I'll try this.
I installed a beta version of photoshop a few weeks ago - I may not have uninstalled that correctly (I did it from the 'uninstall app' within the beta folder. A wipe & fresh install of it may help. Thanks.

Perhaps try a thorough reset of Photoshop preferences?
(read this entire post before acting please)
Resetting restores Photoshop's internal preferences, which are saved when Photoshop closes.
If they become corrupt then various issues can occur.
Here’s some info on how to do that:
https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html
Manually removing preferences files is the most complete method for restoring Photoshop to its default state:
https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#Manually
Note re macOS: The user Library folder is hidden by default.
To access files in the hidden user Library folder, see here for how to access hidden user library files.
https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/access-hidden-user-library-files.html
Unexpected behavior may indicate damaged preferences. Restoring preferences to their default settings is a good idea when trying to troubleshoot unexpected behaviors in Photoshop. check out the video

Learn how to access and modify Photoshop preferences and customize per your frequent workflows

And here’s an earlier forum discussion as an aid to understanding
You may want to backup your settings and custom presets, brushes & actions before restoring Photoshop's preferences.
Here is general info about that: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#BackupPhotoshoppreferences
Before you reset your preferences
in case of future issues, I suggest you make a copy as Adobe may need one to check problematic references.
Quit Photoshop.
Go to Photoshop's Preferences folder
Preferences file locations: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/preference-file-names-locations-photoshop.html\
[on MacOS see: Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings
Note for those on macOS: - be aware that the user Library folder is hidden by default on macOS.
https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/access-hidden-user-library-files.html
In the Finder, open the “Go” menu whilst holding down the Option (Alt) key.
Library will now appear in the list - below the current user's “home” directory. ]
Now you can drag the entire Adobe Photoshop [Version] Settings folder to the desktop or somewhere safe as a back-up of your settings.
Note for those on macOS:
Preference preservation is affected by macOS permissions,
you’ll need to allow Photoshop ‘Full Disk Access’ in your Mac OS Preferences/Security and Privacy
It may even be time to reinstall Photoshop.
It’s recommended that you use the Adobe CC cleaner tool to remove all traces first.
(See above about preserving preferences though! Its worth preserving them unless they are corrupted.)
https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html
Uninstall Photoshop BUT make sure to choose the option “Yes, remove app preference”.
Once that process finishes, start the installation process and look into the “Advanced Options”. Uncheck “Import previous settings and preferences” and choose to “Remove old versions”.
I hope this helps

Do you have multiple versions of photoshop installed?

It's a brand new mac but I did install the beta version to try out the new rule, neural filters but I uninstalled it because none of them worked. I wonder if there are bits of that left about. I think I'll do a wipe & reinstall as suggested above.

Did you manage to solve this?
I'm getting the same issue after installing the Beta version and uninstalling.
Really slowing down work..
Would love to hear what worked for you (if anything worked at all).
Thanks!

It went away on it own.
I did nothing.
although I do have PS Beta installed at the moment for 'creative fill' - suppose I may reencounter the issue once that tool becomes part of the normal PS and I uninstall the Beta 🤷🏼

Also getting the same issue after using the Beta Version then uninstalling it once 25.0.0 came out. Totalling screwing up my workflow and now I have to read and troubleshoot. Wasn't my plan for this day. Ugh technology.

This is an example of why you don't use beta software unless you know what problems can arise and are prepared. Beta software and workflow shouldn't be used together, betas are for testing and evaluation not production.

They uninstalled the beta, that's what is causing the issue. Not really fair to suggest they're at fault for trying the beta. I certainly didn't expect it to break my main install.

Its not a matter of fault, its a matter of expectations. You should absolutely expect a beta application to cause problems. If it was bug-free then it would not be in development.

I do not expect a seperate beta version to interfer with the live version, and I do not think I should expect otherwise. I am fortunate enough that reinstalling PS was enough to fix this issue for myself, but I have deep sympathy for others struggling.

@shamde Betas can and will affect the system and software in which they are installed. Its why I choose to run Betas on an isolated instance/partition instead of my main production instance.
The solution posted of uninstalling PS (beta and 25) and LR and reinstalling both public versions (not beta) seems to resolve the conflicts.
