Fine grid lines appear on every file

So, I've not used photoshop for a few months and now I see this or simlar anytime I open a file.

 

It's darn annoying and have no idea why it's happened or happening.

 

Anyone?

You can toggle the grid visibility with Control+Apostrophe.

yeap that did it ... but WHY in the first place?  on this particular document is was a 10x10cm grit.  Weird .... I knew it was a simple answer just brain fog couldn't recitfy it.

 

But still, WHY is a grid showing when I didn't ask and how does 'it' determine the ratio?
