Question

How can I open more than one file with File Open as Camera Raw method ?

Hi,

One can open many raw files into camera raw to adjust each and compare when in there, I have stills capture from my camcorder and need to make them all look the same, I use the neat trick of go File>Open As>camera raw and select them and cannot select more than one, mass selection disallowed. I need to alter sliders on each until they all look the same, thats the whole idea of camera raw when opening more than one file as done with .cr2 for example.

How can I get these .png or .jpg into camera raw to do so ?

Its like photoshop saying can only open 1 file into the normal pshop arena, why deny us more than 1 file , what goes on ?

A work around - if you are applying the same edits to each image - start in Bridge. Open your file, make the edits and close the file. Right click on the file in Bridge - develop settings - copy settings. Then do the same with the rest but paste settings.

So, just to sum up:

What stops this is the fact that ACR can't open PNGs directly, like it can open TIFF/jpeg. That would make for a good feature request.

The workaround is to batch into TIFF or jpeg. Then it's not a problem - select multiple files in Bridge and open them all with filmstrip in ACR.

It should be noted that opening multiple files into ACR only works from Bridge. It does not work from Windows Explorer - then they will open one by one.

Hi, Ito convert them all to jpg as mentioned, I did this:-

I make a new action, open a .png, it prompts for adobeRGB1998 working space I choose the third option alter profile and select AdobeRGB1998 I then save as .jpg (layers is already background flatten is greyed out, I choose image mode its already 8 bit so no need there,) I save as jpg to a new folder called 'try again' and close file, action ends, I go file automate and action 123 is already chosen, I select destination 'try again' and ok and it opens image on screen and asks me to choose the RGB option, grrrrrr !!

I do so and it closes, next one opens, again I have to choose rgb, it closes, I do a few more, check on the folder and there is just one file in there, its taking each .png and saving as the first image. Good job I checked else 150 files all saved as same image, so 1 file in that folder !

so I ended up with one jpg. and it still asks me for rgb working space to be clicked despite recording the selection of AdobeRGB1998 in profile when it appears sayin about working space.

what went wrong ?

Precisely what does the warning say?

It is possible to turn on a warning (in color settings) to the effect that the file's embedded profile is not the same as the working space. As if that was a problem - the embedded profile will and should override the working space. This warning should just be turned off permanently and forgotten, it's completely useless.

Hi, I have searched PC again and this time bridge cs6 as well as CS3 appears, silly Msoft, I launch that, and this time select all 3 and r/click offers open as camera raw, as does your ctrl R,

YIPPEE !!!

Bridge by the way is supposedly free now, but adobe chat says may have to pay a sub for pshop to get it, despite what

https://prodesigntools.com/free-adobe-bridge-cc.html  says.

Yes, Bridge in itself is free, but it won't launch ACR unless you have a corresponding licensed Photoshop version.

Since ACR can be hosted by either Photoshop or Bridge, some people thought installing just Bridge could be a free lunch to get new camera support, without needing Photoshop. But that doesn't work. Then it throws up a warning that a licensed Photoshop is required.

I am not sure I am getting it what is actual problem but...

Have you tried to open multiple JPG or TIFF in ACR from Bridge. ADjust them then select all 3 images using Shift + click and lastly click on Open button. That should open all 3 images in Photoshop. You can also open images as Smart Objects. Does this solution work for you?

And by the way, if your problem is to select more then one image in Explorer then try to marquee over them instead of clicking each individual image although it works using Shift key for me.

What file format are the files you are trying to open? If they are TIFF or JPEG, you may just want to change the preferences for File Handling to automatically open all TIFFs or JPEGs in Camera Raw preferences:

You can do this in Lightroom, which in any case is much more streamlined for processing multiple files.

"Open As" doesn't accept multiple files. You'd have to do it from Bridge, but there's no "open as" there. Jpegs will open directly into ACR from Bridge, as long as ACR preferences are set accordingly. But again, there's no corresponding setting for png.

This would make a sensible feature request.
