How to Auto Straighten and Crop Images with black borders?

New Here ,
May 06, 2018 May 06, 2018

I have several thousand (large filesize) TIFF files which are scanned images of 35mm transparancies. (I have been asking elsewhere about the colour depth)

The subject of this question is:-

  • - Each of the images has a black border where the scan was just larger than the actual film.
  • - Some images are a little crooked due to the slight slack in the scanner slide holder.

What I want to do is

  • Straighten any images that are crooked
  • Crop the black border from each image

Is there any software or plugin that can

  • Recognise the black border
  • then Straighten the image
  • and crop to a predetermined size

… so that I can do this in auto batch mode not manually…..!

Thanks!

If we can assume the black margin is the same amount on all the scans, this may work and be suitable for an Action and batch, including the images that are straight but show the black margin.

1. File > Automate > Crop and Straighten Photos. (Actually 1 photo)  (This will create a new file at the same time.)

2. Image > Canvas size... click relative. Enter minus figures, -.6 inch, for example, with the Anchor dot in the middle. Ok

3. Save the file
