Question

How to copy and paste an image into a video layer frame?

Using the video layer in the timeline, I want to past an image I drew on a normal layer onto a specific frame in the video layer. Sometimes, when I paste it, it works, but most of the time, when I paste it just make a whole new normal layer with the pasted object. I don't want a new layer. I want to past it into the video layer on the frame I have selected. Any help? This would be really helpful for copying something on one frame and pasting it to the next if I could figure it out.

If you press expand\unfold button in video layer you will see white strip or rectangles representing frame fill. If you trying to paste into video layer and there is already frame drawned - it will paste into new layer above. Just merge down with video layer with Ctrl - E.

You could select the video layer and draw on it directly with the brush on a particular frame.

If you're drawing on a separate layer, instead of trying to paste it onto the video layer, try the following:

  1. Draw the content on a new layer
  2. Adjust its duration in the Timeline
  3. Select the drawing and the video layers in the Layers panel
  4. Convert them into a smart object (right-click and select Convert to Smart Object or Layer > Smart Objects > Convert to Smart Object)
