Sorry for asking this but I don't know how to expand a rectangle just on one side, if I use ctrl t to expand it, it becomes bigger everywhere. I attached a video showing this. I just want to make the rectangle wider.

When going back to a live shape, don't use Ctrl+T. Choose the rectangle tool and click on the shape layer again.

Ctrl+T gives you this :

Selecting the rectangle tool and the shape layer gives you this :

So you can then drag the side handles :

Nancy’s Shift-drag tip works great if you want to temporarily disable proportional scaling. You can also turn off the Link Shape Width and Height link icon up in the options bar, which lets you disable or enable proportional scaling whenever you want.

But isn't there a way that the box around your rectangle follows it when you rotate it because now when I expand it using shift + drag this just happens: (check the video) I just want to make the rectangle higher like you would in a program like google docs or something.

Ctrl+T to Transform.

Hold down the Shift key while dragging edges.
