How to join 2 animated GIFs in one session simultaneously?

Hi all,

Can I join 2 animated GIFs of the same duration in one session simultaneously?

It should be noted that two GIFs have different motions to each other, but the same length of Timeline. So, is this possible by using Photoshop CS6..?

Thanks in advance.

@, Nope, I've tried with no luck. The total is 12 seconds but in two sequences, while I want 8 seconds in a "single sequence" to run simultaneously without changing the speed of two animations.

You mean like this?

The text animation runs on 2s and the blinking one runs on 1s (base frame rate of 24fps). The animation is actually slightly longer than 8 seconds. As was stated before, the blinking consists of only 6 frames, and two frames at the very end will have to be cut off to match the frame length of the text animation.

I did this in OpenToonz - easier to do in OT, since importing the two gif animations automatically creates two frame-based timelines, and the text anim is imported on 1s. With OT I selected those frames, and told it to expose on 2s. Then repeated the first 6 frames of the blinking, and exported as a gif animation.

Define what you mean by join. Do the two animations have the same size frame. Do you mean in sequence. Play side by side.  Be made into a composite image some in some frame size.  Joined at some point.  What kind of marriage do you want?

JJMack help, Thanks for response, Yes, these two animations have not the same frame size, but want to play & finish together at the same time. For example, the two animations like this:

This is Logo-ABC (8 seconds):

This is Text-anim (8 seconds):

Then, I plan the Text-anim to be merged to the bottom of Logo-ABC, and play & finish together at the same time 8 seconds.

Hopefully it's clear to you.

Overlaying one frame animation over another, is a bit more work than joining them sequentially.  There is also a good chance of issues with the number of frames used. If the animation you want to overlay is one you have found, rather than made, then it is likely to have a solid background (no transparency) which might be another major issue.

Here's how to proceed

Open both animations (if they already exist) and switch to the Motion timeline.

Group the layers in each animation to keep things tidy.

Right click the group in the animation to be overlaid, and choose Duplicate, and use the drop down and chose the other document.  An alternative is to drag the group to the other documents tab (if you have the documents Consolidated to Tabs).

This bit is important Select ALL the frames by selecting the first, and Shift clicking the last (in the timeline).

With the frames selected, move the group into position.

Twirl open the overlay group, and select all of its layers.  Turn them off (Ctrl ,)

You now have the tedious task of syncing layers to frames.

Select the first frame, and turn on the first layer in the overlay group.

Select the second frame, and turn on the second layer.

Continue until done.

If the two animations have a different number of frames, then you'll need to make a decision on how to deal with it.  The simplest is to have the last layer in one of the animated elements turned on for each of the additional frames.  But you now have the building blocks on how to make frame animations, and can get creative.

Good luck,
