How to make the same change to several Smart Objects

I am watching a video (Collin Smith Live From Lockdown) where a smart object is copied & pasted several times, creating new layers. When he double clicks any one of the thumbnails of the copied smart objects, a new window opens where he makes changes (in this case color), saves & closes, returns to the main image, where the same change appears on each layer. When I do this, only the  layer on which I made the adjustment shows the change. In other words, all the other layers remain unchanged. Am I missing a step?

Did you create linked or embedded smart objects. They need to be placed as linked.
