Question

How to select color groups of pixels over a certain size?

Hi there! I am new to Photoshop but have scourged the web for weeks trying to find this answer with no luck. What I need is essentially the wand tool, but with the added ability to deselect groups of pixels that are small (say <10 pixels total) of that specific color.

For example: I have a somewhat posterized looking image and used the wand tool to select all black pixels, then cut them to a new layer. Now on this new layer I have a few small scattered groups of transparent pixels within the black I need to fill in, and a few small scattered groups of black pixels in the transparent area I need to delete.

Normally I would do this by hand, but I have up to 20 colors to repeat this with and the fact that I only want to eliminate smaller groupings makes it take a very long time by hand.

Any tips to speed this up? Thank you SO much in advance.

Not sure I can edit my original post to include an image but here is what I'm doing:

Circled areas are spots I would like to fill in - it's only the small spots. There are lots of "larger" transparent spots I need to keep. Say anything larger than 10 pixels total. There is also the reverse of this (not shown in image) where I have little pixel clusters of black floating in the transparent region I need to delete. But again only the small spots.. hopefully this makes things a little more clear. Thanks again!!

Thank you for the reply but I don't think this works for me.

- if I'm working in my layer of only 1 color (black and transparent for example) there are no similar colors to pull.

- if I work in the complete layer (all colors) there are still no similar colors because with 20 colors they're pretty distinct. Plus even if I could select similar, it would select too much of the next closest color. I just want to clean up small groups of pixels
