KEYBOARD SHORTCUT FOR TOGGLE SELECTED LAYER VISIBLE/INVISIBLE? CS2

I'm constantly clicking a layer visible/invisible to see its effect on the general image, but I have to do this with the mouse.

Is there a keyboard shortcut for toggling on/off a layer's visibility/invisibility?

It should be the same as with the newer versions: Ctrl + < or Cmd + <

    Hi Benjamin Root ~

That doesn't work on my CS2 Version 9

The standard Windows keyboard, like that of a typewriter, has the < above the comma on the comma key, so that SHFT-COMMA is necessary to get to < . So, CTRL-COMMA is the only thing available. I tried CTRL-SHFT-COMMA but that didn't work either.

I notice that CTRL-[ and CTRL-] (brackets) moves the selection of layers up and down, so I tried CTRL with just about every key on the keyboard, but nothing had any effect on visible/invisible for the selected layer.

Ctrl+ and Ctrl - cause the size of the canvas to increase and decrease.

    • I've looked at (as you suggested)

keyboard shortcuts > application menus > layer > then set a shortcut for hide layers

. . . but when I select "Hide layers" I can't enter text in the text box that opens up:

Is there a secret to entering something in "Hide layers"? I'd like to use Ctrl-Shift-Q.

    Also:

    • I looked at Preferences but couldn't figure out anything there

    • <<Press and hold Ctrl+Alt+Shift immediately after initiating Photoshop's startup. A box will appear asking if you want to continue with the reset, select "yes." If you don't see this, you weren't fast enough...Try again.>>

Alas, I tried it two dozen times but it only worked once, and then the message box that came up wasn't a question about reset, it had something to do with disabling something.

‌The + is simply what we use to describe adding multiple keystrokes at the same time. For instance, Ctrl+J to duplicate a layer.

So, pressing "Ctrl" and "," is usually the toggle layer on off or hide/show layer.

As for setting the custom key, actually press Ctrl, Shift and Q on your keyboard. If it's currently set for something else, you will receive a warning. I'd recommend using the standard Ctrl and , shortcut, but the decision is ultimately yours.

Hmm, did you launch Photoshop then immediately press Ctrl, Alt, and Shift at the same time? You must be very quick.
