Latest update broke fonts.

The latest Photoshop update broke fonts.  I created an image last month in the version 24 (latest version at the time), and used the Rufina font.  I loaded that same image today, after updating to the newest version and I got the "Selected font failed during last operation" error.  If I load the image in the previous version (23) of Photoshop, it works fine.

The image contains 9 different text layers, all using Rufina.  Seven of those use the Rufina Oornaments.  One uses Rufina Italic.  The one that doesn't work uses a combination of the two.

To duplicate, open an older versin of Photoshop.  Create a text layer and enter some text using both Rufina Italics and ornaments.  Save.  Load this into the latest (v24.1.1) and try to edit it.

That is correct.  I created the document in an earlier version of 24; the one that was current in December.  After the update a couple weeks ago, it no longer worked, but still worked fine in v23 and earlier.

Now it's working again, after the latest updates.

Is Rufina a type 1 font if so this would explain why:

https://helpx.adobe.com/fonts/kb/postscript-type-1-fonts-end-of-support.html

Photoshop 23.x ended support for type 1 fonts.

Rufina is from TipoType and is available from several sources, including Adobe Fonts:

https://fonts.adobe.com/fonts/rufina

@Dave Jerrard where did you download Rufina from?

Did you activate the font as part of Adobe Type or did you buy and install it on your computer?

Hi Dave,

Can you clarify what you meant by "their own site"? You linked to Adobe Fonts, not to TipoType.

https://fonts.adobe.com/fonts/rufina

https://tipotype.com/rufina/

Adobe Fonts uses some typefaces from Adobe and others from foundries. Rufino is from a foundry and is available either for sale from TipoType or included with Adobe Fonts.

Hi @Dave Jerrard so what you are saying is

  • You have activated Rufina family from fonts.adobe.com
  • You use both the Rufina Italic and Rufina Ornament in the same text frame created in an older version of Photoshop
  • When you then try to edit in current 24.1.1 it gives you the error.

What happens if you try to recreate the text directly in 24.1.1?

Their own site, which I linked to, where the font is activated.

I just tried it again, and now it's working.
