Left click lock

For the last few days I have had this annoying issue where the left mouse button sticks on. Say if I am doing a free transform or panning around the screen (space bar + left click). I'll release the left mouse button but when I move the mouse the action keeps happening as though the left button is still pressed down. I then need to click the left mouse button again to release it. I am running the latest version of PS on Windows 10. I have checked the windows mouse settings and click lock is not enabled. I have also tried a new mouse just to make sure and the problem still remains. Could anyone shed any light? Thanks.

Hi @Aidan5E62 sorry to hear this.

Go to Preferences/Tools and disable flick panning and overscroll - does the issue still occur?

Are you using only a mouse or do you also have a graphics tablet/pen?

I don't know you but I could HUG you!!!!!!! LOL.
I've been wrestling with this 24.4.1 update for over a week, spent literally 3hrs online with Adobe tech, to no avail!!! I couldn't find this in the Pref windows (they couldn't either!!). I knew it was there somewhere!! lol Guess I was simply frustrated and didn't pay attention. But the flick panning, overscroll, the ability to "zoom with Scroll Wheel", and the "Zoom resizes windos" functions were all jacked up and running me up a damn wall!!!! Old habits are hard to break, and I'm an old guy, set in my ways!! lol

I am also having this issue. I am using a desktop and just my mouse, not a pen or tablet or anything like that. I turned off overscrolling and flick panning and it is still doing it. It is also doing it with my brushes! Very annoying and counter productive.

Let's make sure we're in a default state and there are no stale settings somewhere:

Does it work correctly? 

If that doesn't solve it, you can quit Photoshop and put the Settings folder back. 

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

Thanks Cory, tried it out and it didn't help. By the way, the problem doesn't arise all the time, if I restart photoshop it works OK for a while and then it starts acting up again.

After using Photoshop for about 20-40 minutes the zoom tool will stop unclicking. You'll go to scrubby zoom and then it will just continue to hold the zoom. This is a bug that a lot of other people are also experiencing and it's not solvable through unselecting over scroll, resetting tools, or preferences. This bug needs to be addressed because it makes it really difficult to maintain a solid workflow. The application constantly needs to be restarted for the bug to go away before it inevitably happens again.

For just over a week, I've been experiencing issues where photoshop will be stuck on a tool. I know it sounds weird worded that way so try I'll try my best to explain what I mean by that by using the zoom tool as an example. As you know, left clicking will either zoom you in or out depending on the mouse movement (if you have scrubby zoom activated) and if you let go of the mouse, it stops. But recently, I've been noticing that it doesnt stop zoom in or out when I let go of the left key, and it isnt until I click multiple times does it stop. Its not just with the zoom tool that Ive noticed this has been happening; clicks not registering when using the polygonal lasso tool, same thing happening with the canvas rotation tool, and probably others but I havent had the chance to test them out. Nor can I find ways of triggering this occurance, as it seems to happen randomly. Does anyone know how to stop this from happening, as it has become quite a nusaince.

Edit: I have also noticed that switching to different tools doesnt work when it happens. So I can switch to the brush tool if its stuck on the hand tool for example

Wondering why this bug isn't fixed yet. Its been around for almost a month if not longer and it completly kills work flow. Would love an update asap. This is one of the most obnoxious bugs I've seen aside form random crashes.

How the "pro" label that is supposed to be on any adobe software, this sure is absolutely ridiculous. It's been going for so long now. I though I was crazy, I even changed my mouse. Couldn't fing any other people having this issue and now we're here. Photoshop just keeps getting worse and worse. From performane, random crashes and now a left click sticking all the time. It's beginning to be unusable as a software I rely on to make money. Instead trying to come up with new tools maybe they would be better off making the damn software usable and crash free.

These issues are consistent with other users. I use my computer for hours a day I promise you it's not because I have a dirty mouse lol. The issue is re-creatable but random every time you open Photoshop. It can take anywhere between 5 minutes to 30 minutes for the bug to appear. This issue didn't use to exist in the application and then one day it did.

Sorry if cleaning part offended you but that happened to me once, it's not that i have been just commenting but i have been using adobe for last 4 years and my work is also displayed on my[personal information removed as per forum guidelines] in form of images.

Very funny bro. Thats definetly not a dirty mouse or driver relatet. I am a designer for over 20 years and using a bunch of other (Adobe) Tools in which this problem not occur. Since i have the latest Photoshop version i also have this really annoying bug. Sad, that Adobe is not capable of fixing this elementary thing to use a designtool properly.

Sorry, but this is such an insulting reply. Many people report this issue and we are not people who has started using Photoshop yesterday. There is definitely a bug and it really ruins the workflow! I hope Adobe will find a solution soon, but it seems like they don't even want to acknowledge it in the first place. 'Clean your mouse.' smh...

I actually created a thread on this a few weeks ago and it was around the time I had updated my graphics card's driver (to stop photoshop from frequently crashing like it had been since new years). Apart of me was worried that that was the cause but it looks like Im not the only experiencing this issue which one hand Im glad that my attempt at making photoshop stable had caused this annoying glitch wasnt the cause, it also is annoying that this is even an issue thay still hasnt been fixed! 😞

Hi Cory,
Solution 1 worked for me. More specifically:
- Made a backup of "Adobe Photoshop 2023 Settings" folder
- Cleared preferences on launch (on Windows so ctrl + alt + shift, yes to prompt)
- Closed Photoshop, deleted the newly created settings folder and replaced with my backup
No longer seeing the left click sticking issue, even after a couple hours of regular workload. For reference, when I updated to version 24.3 I encountered this issue in less than 10 minutes.
