Have you tried unchecking "Use Graphics Processor" under Photoshop > Preferences > Performance?

I have a Mid 2012 MBP and never had this happen, so I can't answer from experience.
I found quite a long thread on this subject on this, so maybe there may a fix somewhere in it.

Hi
I'v never experienced something like this since day one using a Mac and Adobe products. (sometime I feel it's like 40 years ago). That mean prior to my Mac Classic ll ( and lots of Mac towers ) to my latest MacBook Pro (2018).
The fix can be a simple adjustment in your Mac settings to a core deficiency of the Mac. Mind you, it also can be cause by others software running on your Mac.

Some people say the new version consumes too much memory. Is my 16gb still not enough?
