Question

My preset folder is empty?

I'm probably an idiot...

I've just reinstalled PS CC 2019, since my old computer went to PC Heaven.
When I went to add my old brushes... color me confused to find the presets folder empty.
So I checked all the others... and all of them are empty. Nada, nothing in there.
I have lots of old stuff on the previous computer's harddrive, but some stuff is simply not there anymore. (Like Contours. It doesn't have all the default contours the previous version had.)
What gives? I've uninstalled and reinstalled... same thing. Preset folders are all empty.
On top of that, I had a folder called "Color Books" on the old version, and it's not there in the reinstall. I have "Color Range" though, which I didn't have previously. Same thing?
Can anyone enlighten me? 🙂

Thanks in advance.

If you have access to you old system drive search the hidden folders  the your user is application data is saved in for the different Photoshop version you had installed.

I have the old presets, that's not the problem. I just don't see *any* of the default presets at all in the new install. The default brushes are present in the application -- but not in the preset folder.

I'm a bit confused.  You say this is a new install on a new computer?

Where did you look for the presets?  Are you able to access the old drive?  Because that's where it will be.

What operating system are you using?  This link gives you the folder locations

I actually had a bad experience myself when updating to 20.06  I should have realised it was about to screw me because the Application Manager was inviting me to Install Photoshop rather than Update  and I lost all my settings, shortcuts, workspaces,Actions etc. but the presets were still all there.

New install on new computer. It created a presets folder under users/name/roaming etc, but it's empty.

Windows 10 Pro. Sorry, hit enter by mistake. I copied the old folder to the desktop when I junked to old PC, so I had the presets folder handy. Alas, I can just copy and overwrite, but I still want to know where it's hiding the default brushes (for instance) since they are there in PS.

Reinstalling overwrites these folders which means any custom brushes, etc. you created are wiped out.

This link is also helpful for loading presets from another location: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preset-migration.html

Yes, I know. But it should still install with default brushes, swatches, contours etc. And they aren't in those folders. (Win 10) Ergo, they must be elsewhere, since the default brushes are available inside PS.
