Neural Filters Hang on Loading (Mac)

I seem to be the most recent user plagued by neural filters hanging during load.

Environment: Photoshop 23.5.1

M1 Max MacBook Pro

MacOS  12.6

Memory: 32GB

I haven't tried neural filters before, so I tried to load them. It hangs at loading. I've tried the following fixes proposed in other threads and in Neural Filters Feedback and Known Issues:

  • I'm running in an admin account
  • Use Graphics Processor is on
  • The folder ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/UXP/PluginsStorage/PHSP/23 is empty
  • I restarted Photoshop
  • Network is active

Can someone help?

Thanks!

Thanks to an online session with Adobe Support, I got it working. Actually, they did, so I can't track exactly what they did. But I do know they renamed the following files (equivalent to moving them to the desktop I suppose):

~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/UXP
~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/dynamiclinkmediaserver
~/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop 2022 Settings/Adobe Photoshop 2022 Prefs.psp

Then, they uninstalled Photoshop using the Creative Cloud app, followed by reinstalling it.

Then, stuff worked.

Disclaimer: That's what I remember. I make no guarantees. Good luck!

So, still no joy.

But, I was able to download the neural filters on my 2019 iMac 5K with no problem. Even better, the colorize filter did an amazing job on a B&W photo I had laying around.

Having said that... does anyone know if it's possible to copy the downloaded files from my iMac to my MacBook Pro to allow neural filters to work? I'm hoping it's possible, assuming the platform differences don't enter into it.

Thank you so much !

I'm already desperate because it didn't work for me but the way you described worked.

I still had data from an old CS5 installation under ~/Library/Preferences/.

After I deleted that and uninstalled and reinstalled PhotoShop as described, everything works as it should. - THANKS

Have you tried resetting your PS Preferences? Go to PS Preferences/General and click the reset prefs button. Restart PS.

I have almost the same setup as you - except my M1 MBP has 64 GB memory and the neural filters load fine.

Good idea! But it didn't work. I tried twice. It brings to mind that sometimes actually deleting the preferences file fixes things. (at least in some apps). Unfortunately, ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe is so full of stuff that I don't know what (if anything) to delete there.

Any other ideas...?

This article has a section on how to manually remove your preferences:

Tried one more thing: Booted in Safe Mode. Same problem.

In case anyone really wants to get their fingernails dirty, attached is the output from Wireshark for all packets that have a source or destination hostname containing "adobe". I don't know how to interpret it, but I can generate it. Someone who really Knows Stuff might find the answer in there. Or can get closer to an answer.

More information: According to a network monitor, Photoshop isn't generating any network traffic while it's trying to load the neural filters.

For what it is worth, as I am using a Window 10 system, some of Neural filters have been problematic for me.  Landscape Mixer was causing my system to shut down and restart, and doing it at roughly the same point repeatedly.  I tried different video card drivers as suggested, which helped, but Neural filters are not completely stable for me.  It is worth putting up with the hassle as some of them are truly remarkable.  As close to magic as anything I have come across in content creation software.  This whole Adobe Sensei thing has taken content creation to completely new levels.  The automatic selection tools being chief among them. What used to take 30 minutes to do a less than stellar job, can now be done close to perfect in a few seconds.

BTW What happened to photo restoration?  I can't remember if I only saw it on YouTube or in Photoshop, but I don't have it now.

I haven't even gotten to the point to see them be stable or unstable. I still can't get any to load 😟
