New shape can't create in new layer

Hi,

I would like to know, how I can create a new shape to new own layer. When I create a new shape, it is inserted into the already created layer and cannot be edited separately.

I use Photoshop 2023.

I don't know what it says... in the upper left corner of the options bar it should be set to shape - NOT path or pixels.

New shapes by default should create a new shape layer. What are the settings in your options bar?
