I have tried numerous times to install the new Nik 8 Collection to Photoshop but the tools simply do not appear under Filters as they should. I have uninstalled Nik 8 and tried reinstalling. I have uninstalled Photoshop and reinstalled. Both are the most current versions. But, no success. The Nik 8 collection tools work perfecetly in LIghtroom. I have checkled the file path to be sure Nik 8 is installed in the correct folder, and it is per DxO support team instructions.
So, what am I missing?
@Redhartotter The message is a normal behavior if you start module form the Nik Collection via the Plugin palette.
This message indicates that all inputs and actions in Photoshop are blocked during a Nik module, like Color Efex or so, is running.
Check the settings in one of the Nik modules, ex. Color Efex . Goto File - Settings an the to the Tab Host (1, Hostanwendung). Under Default Parameters (2, Standardparameter) chose on "Apply As" (3, Anwenden als) the option "new layer" (neue Ebene)
...DxO has released a new version of Nik Collection 8, version 8.2.
There's already a bugfix for the message that Photoshop is blocked during a Nik module is active.
Try it out, perhaps it's helps.

Thanks you for your reply. Unfortunately your instructions are too complicated for me. My question remains:
Why is this happening now with my latest upgrade to Nik Collection 8? Is it because I have upgraded to a new iMac 2024 with the new Apple M4 chip?
I have never experienced this in my many years of using Nik Collection - many versions and many mMac operating systems.
I can use it through the filters menu as I have always done(not the palette) - but the message keeps popping up.
I appreciate your advice. Thank you. Heather

This is a normal behavior since version 8 of the Nik Collection. This ISN'T a bug or issue!!
From DxO's support site:
Take a look here: Workflow with Adobe Photoshop – Nik Collection Guidelines

What's to complicated? It's very simple to check the settings during on of the Nik modules (for example Color Efex) is open. Click on menu File and the Settings. In the dialog window click on Host. Under the Default parameters you'll find "Apply to". Change this setting to "Active Layer" or the option that you want to use.
The "New Layer" is the default setting after the new installation of Nik.

NIK collection 8 does nor open, neither via "filter" nor via "plugins" in Photoshop (latest version). I can not go into the settings of NIK collection 8, e.g. color efex, to make changes there to fix the problem, because it wouldn´t even open after the update. The message I get is: "you can not currently use Adobe Photoshop, as a NIK color efex plug in is open. To re-access Photoshop, apply or cancel your edit in NIK collection 8."
The fact is that the plug-in is not open! But when I check in the task manager, it shows NIK 8 color efex (2).
I have no problem still opening NIK collection 7 which I fortunately have not uninstalled yet.

Do a complete deinstallation of the Nik Collection 8 and the run the appropriate Cleaner Tool
Windows: Instructions Nik CleanupTool (Windows only) – Help center
Mac: Instructions Nik CleanupTool (macOS only) – Help center
After this download the recent installation file from DxO and install Nik.
If this doesn't help contact the DxO support.

I have same problem as Nik Collection 8 version 8.2 is not working in Photoshop. I have been using Nik Collection 6 before.
I sent email to DxO support, did not get help. I follow Axel instruction above, deinstallation of the Nik Collection 8, run Nik CleanupTool. It is still not working. The worst thing is that Nik CleanupTool removed my Nik Collection 6 from my computer, and Nik Collection 6 is not in my DxO account anymore. I reported to DxO, not get response yet. I do not know what I can do at this time.

What doesn't work? Nik in Photoshop as filters or via plugin or both?
Do you get error messages?
Does Nik collection work as stand alone applications?
Which Photoshop version?

What worked for me in the end was deinstalling EVERYTHING NIK/DXO, related, also previous version NIK 7 and other DXO software that I had. Restart computer, re-download the software. When I then started NIK 8 in Photoshop, the same old error message very briefly popped up but then the plugin opened and worked, still does.
