Hi All,

Apologies for the flashing/strobing you're experiencing when opening files, this tends to affect older graphics cards (GPU) that don't support all of the aspects of DirectX 12.

For Windows:

  1. Update Photoshop to version 24.5 or later
  2. Enable the Older GPU Mode option in Preferences > Technology Previews > “Use Older GPU Mode (pre 2016)"
  3. Check if there's a GPU driver update available and update if so

For macOS:

  1. Update Photoshop to version 24.5 or later
  2. Update to a newer or latest ma

We would like to find out if there are any of you on Windows for whom:

A. Use Older GPU Mode is Checked, and

B. Deactivate Native canvas is Unchecked, and

C. are still experiencing this strobing issue with a GPU that supports DirectX 12?

If so, could you please provide Photoshop's Help > System Info dialog text in this thread?

The info posted below was from an Adobe employee.

On Win 10...I first reverted to an earlier version of PS. Then after reading the info from an Adobe employee ( copied below), I made the Preference change suggested. The suggestion..."enable the Older GPU option in Preferences > Technology Previews > “Use Older GPU Mode (pre 2016)” and this worked for me.

I updated to the new version. Photoshop ran with no problems.

The first thing to try would be, enable the Older GPU option in Preferences > Technology Previews > “Use Older GPU Mode (pre 2016)” If still having trouble, try enabling the "Deactivate Native Canvas" option also in Technology Previews

When I try to open any image, photoshop canvas flashes in white and black and it won't stop until I close it. I can't use it because I can't see anything else but the white/black flashing. I use the cleaner and install it again. I updated my NVIDIA and I am using the last adobe photoshop version and nothing has worked yet! Please help!

There is a workaround that works for Windows 10, don't know if it works for
Mac but worth a try
Try this,
In Edit/preferences/Technology previews 1. click Older GPU mode (pre 2016)
2. click Deactivate native canvas.
Worked for me. Worth a try.

I right-clicked a photo on my machine(HP laptop with Win 10) like I normally do to tell it open with Photoshop. But instead of just opening as normal I was shocked with a flickering black and white photoshop screen. I dont know exactly what the problem was, like I said it's a normal photo like many of the thousands of other photos that are in folders on my machine, but tying to open the file(4512 x 3000) Photoshop was shockingly struggling to open it. I decided to take a short video to show you guys. ------> https://youtu.be/PcskvgeuS4A

Hopefully a restart resolves the issue.
