I recently updated Photoshop to release 23.0. When I went to use the typing tool, it behaves oddly. The tool will create type, but nothing displays until I hit enter, then the typing displays. If you edit a line of text, it is the same thing. You do not see your edits until you hit enter.

I searched around the web to try and find a solution to this. The closest answer I could find was to disable the GPU in the preferences > general > performance settings. However, the "Use Graphics Processor" is grayed ouot. The GPU is listed as "Unknow GPU (UNKNOWN)". I am running the native CPU graphiics processor, which is the Intel HD Graphics 4000 and I just updated it 10.18.10.5161. The problem with the text existed before and after the GPU update.

How do I change the text settings so that I can see my typing in real time?

Try enabling this option in preferences and restarting Photoshop to see if it helps

Here is my System Info... I Have an AMD Radeon HD5450 GPU with 2Gb Ram but obviously not compatible because the problem goes away if I switch off the GPU in Photshop as per the solution here...

Photoshop 23.0.1 (Unable to give you full line because Help > About Photoshop… shows nothing, only restricts me from exiting Ps by any means except Alt+F4)

OS: Windows 10 (with all updates applied)

Open new document
Select Type (I used New Times Roman, regular, 14 pt)
Left-Click on document (new type layer created, shows Lorem Ipsum highlighted)
Type anything, I used “just typing along”
The cursor jumps but what I’m typing is not shown on the document.
Display the Layers panel and left-click on the Type Layer.
The document now shows what I was typing, “just typing along”
Making changes to the text has the same problem. The same problem exists on new and existing documents.

Expected Action: That the document will, in real time, show me what I am typing, as it used to.

Photoshop 23.0.1 (Unable to provide a copy of the complete line since clicking the Help tab and selecting About Photoshop... does nothing but restrict me from exiting Ps by any means except the Alt+F4 keys.)

Open a new document

Select the Type function (T)

Click on the document

Lorem Ipsum is displayed Highlighted (All OK so far)

Begin typing. What you are typing is not displayed, just Lorem Ipsum no longer highlighted.

Display the Layers panel and click on the text layer.

What you typed is now displayed on the document.

Attempting to edit what you typed will not display on the document until you again click on the layer in the Layers panel.

The same problem exists when adding/editing text in existing documents.

Problem persists after several restarts of Photoshop.

Expectations: What I am typing will appear on the document as it has previously.

Thank you. Added the text line and text now performs as expected. Sorry about the duplicate, just delete it. I was using Ps ahead of catching up on my e-mails. Guy has got to have priorities.

After installing Version 23 and 23.01 I have problems with the visualisation of text editing. Changes cant't be seen until I deactivate and activate the layer.

I have the very same issues... I've tried the reset process as suggested and I'm using the very latest update 23.0.1

I have no GPU (I do but it isn't recognised so therefore already off).

It is driving me nuts and making me consider cancellation of my subscription!!

I just rolled Ps back to version 22.5.2, which is very easily done from the Creative Cloud Desktop control panel, and the text tool works perfectly normally. I will stay at this version until version 23 has a few updates and, hopefully, fixes whatever is causing this issue.

I just got the 23.0.0 update, and I can't see any live preview of the text I'm editing. I found a post about this with the "solution" to update to 23.0.1, but I'm still having the same issue. Help?

Just updated to 2022 version and every time I make a change with text, I'm not actually able to see what I'm doing. eg. changing the font, adding text.

I make the change. Nothing visible happens. I can only see what I've done once I click the top left button in the tool bar (auto select button, not sure what it's called!) Why is this happening? I can't be going back and clicking this button every time I need to see the changes I've made! Why am I not seeing the text I'm writing AS I'm writing it? Why am I not seeing the font change AS I'm changing it? Please help!

Check your hardware acceleration preferences and update your systems graphics driver. Such a behavior indicates issues in that area and no doubt you would encounter more problems with other such features as well if you used them.

Same problem. I have two computers with the exact same config. On the computer that I updated adding text does NOT work. On the computer with the older version of Photoshop adding text works perfectly. There is NO graphic driver update...
