P: You don't have enough credits...

Community Beginner ,
Jun 16, 2025 Jun 16, 2025

Hello. This message starts to pop up now with using GenAI tool (Photoshop beta and 26.7.0, both version)

"You don't have enough credits for this generative action. Upgrade your Firefly plan now to get more credits for continued access or wait until your monthly reset."

I have the annual subscription (renewed several days ago) and 250 credits included into this plan.
Usually when all credits are gone, GenAI just continue to work slower, but there wasn't any block to use this tool.

Are there any new rules/tariff changes for using this tool?

Hey @oksikemp

It seems you have reached your monthly limit. You can either wait until your generative credit limit resets next month or purchase additional generative credits through the Firefly add-on plans. These plans have a month-to-month option that can be cancelled after a month without penalty if needed. Read more about changes to our plans here: https://adobe.ly/4jXoINs

Thats exactly it! If the service actually worked and worked well - great. Happy to get credits. But I am not spending money on useless tries while Adobe gets to cash in. I don't want to be  funding a service that is still in development after already spending a ton to use the software.

Besides, i am not asking it to perform a miracle. Last week it took 20 tries to get an object removed from the background wall. The system kept spitting out GF's that looked like a giant stain. I finally had to go in and do it the old fashioned way.

Hello, the generative fill function is not working. Last night, when I tried to generate something, a message appeared: "You don't have enough credits for this generative action." That day the subscription fee was supposed to be charged, so I thought it was related to that (although before, when I ran out of credits, I could still use generation, just slower). waited, the subscription fee has recently been charged, but the generative fill function still doesn't work. Now there is a different error: "An error occurred. try again.' I see that other people are having this error too.
Or have the rules changed? Now I can't use generation at all if I run out of credits? Previously, you could always use generative fill, it was just slower

Adobe staff have responded in this thread (see pinned reply from CMass above). So yes, it has changed.
The documentation has also been changed. https://helpx.adobe.com/firefly/get-set-up/learn-the-basics/generative-credits-faq.html

Hi @????????_0278 ,

Did you get more credits yesterday when you were charged?  If so, could you please go to the Firefly home page and click on your avatar and take a screen shot of the box that pops up, but please black out your name and email address.

Thanks,

    droopy

I just learned that Adobe is now  charging for  ai  use  through a credit system.  First, the  100 credits  alloted are per  month or per year. Second, how do I access the count  of credits available?

Hello everyone! In 2024, I purchased the Adobe Photoshop Photography Bundle, which included Photoshop and a few other programs. When I purchased it, it was not stated anywhere that Adobe Firefly had a 250 credit limit per month. Now, when I use Photoshop, I find that I have a 250 credit limit to use Firefly. When I run out, I am prompted to either purchase additional credits via a subscription or wait until the next month to get the free 250 credits again. It is frustrating that this limitation was not clearly stated when I purchased the bundle. I feel like I was forced into this service without proper notice. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way to clarify why this was not stated, or how to bypass this limitation without incurring additional costs? Any advice or clarification would be greatly appreciated!

In addition to finding out I was out of generative credits--which came out of the blue and stopped me in the middle of working on a photo on the 16th--it looks like  Adobe is raising the monthly subscription fee for Photoshop--from $9.95 to $14.95, an increase of  50 percent. If you tack on the $9.95 needed to purchase more generative credits, it brings the total to $24.90, an increase of 150 percent all at once.  Does Netflix ever have a price increase like this? Nope. Nobody does.

Hello All,

I have been asked to upgrade to newer version (currently using version 25.12.3) of photoshop or wait for the month end to use generative fill even though my account has sufficient generative credits. I still want to continue with version 25.12.3 and use generative fill without updating to latest version. Please help!!!

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

What is next?
''You used your daily 5 crops per day option. Subscribe Super-Plus plan for more crops!''

Isn't making their apps ''live service'' which is in the end MORE EXPENSIVE than buying the full app for once enough?
Are they limit testing?
Is there a rage or protest going on for this?
Anyone fighting for this?

Adobe is getting more and more unstoppable corporate monarchy day by day.

@AHMET29015755shxm you get a certain amount of free credits per month depending on the plan you have

That answer completely misses the whole point.
We already had Generative Fill for years. It wasn't an ''extra'', it didn't require credit system.

Now, Adobe is limiting it for nothing but greedy, anti-costumer manner.
This is like selling you a full game, you buy the game, and 2 years later they remove part of it and sell you as DLC.

This is such a terrible move. How can anyone (you included) defend this?

The reason they exist is because, unlike other traditional features, generative AI is often done on cloud servers because if it was done on the local machine, there wouldn't be enough processing power and not enough storage space for the machine learning models. And gen AI uses enough computing resources that it is far from free to operate…for these companies, providing gen AI services is a constant extra cost above just the software development. That extra cost has to be paid for somehow.

Generative AI credit systems are not new and not unusual. In fact, they are common: Other gen AI companies have had to do the same thing so that this type of feature can be economically sustainable. The other gen AI services you may have heard of also have credits plans:
Midjourney plans, based on how many image generations you want a month

No, the generative credit system was introduced some time ago. A quick web search says Adobe generative credits were introduced in 2023, so almost two years ago. Here is a web link from September 2023:

Adobe’s Firefly AI art tools go live, but with a credit plan (PC World)

Since that time, their web FAQ about it said that the credits system was subject to change because they were still learning about usage patterns. During that time, even though they had long let everyone know about the generative credits system, for some features they had not been charging against your credits but they said that was temporary, because they were not yet sure how many credits should be charged for certain features. It seems like they have now had the time to figure that out and understand how they want to recover their costs, so now they have some more firm plans in place and can start actually charging against credits...just like the other generative AI services.

Yes, i like how you are politcally correcting this for the glory of this evil company.

I know about Firefly, and i tried it since the very begining just like how i daily use that ''barely working'' Generative Fill since the day it's been introduced.
Never, ever got limited, ever. ''The other AIs already do credit system'' << That doesn't give you right to implement it on an app that you alreay SOLD me.
It's not localized, it's using cloud power. Well, since you created ''creative cloud'', you already give us no other option.
I don't care where you hide those ''here's credit system introduced years ago in somewhere of the termsofuse which are 30 pages long, just like how we made you know early fee exists on free trials.'' This would only prove you are not costumer/user friendly, that's all.

You go girl, you now have a chance to be the next CEO of Adobe.

Honestly, GenAI has been churning out mediocre results far too often lately... and now we’re expected to pay for it? The real issue is that users never know how many tries it’ll take just to get GenAI to do what we actually asked. Charging us for inconsistent or low-quality output just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. And now they want to stack a subscription on top of another subscription? No thanks. I’m done. Not only has GenAI’s quality taken a serious nosedive, but it’s also turning into an overpriced headache to use.

Yes AI is a mess. Poor results, huge use of energy, copyright issues such as infringement and abuse of others IP, whilst over on X the AI even went full N@zi.

Many of us have no interest in using AI unless and until these and many other problems are ironed out.

Talented artists have been using Photoshop to create amazing art for decades now. That's always an option- instead of relying on AI, leverage the non-AI tools and features. There is no NEED for Firefly.

it's not "turning into" - it allready is.

The use of AI (in particular the generative fill feature) to generate images / remove things / make edits takes a lot of computing power- Adobe deserves to be compensated- which they do by allocating Generative credits.  I'm in the basic photagrpahy plan and I get 250 free credtis each month)-- I've never run out of them.   You can purchase credits if needed.

Diferent plans have different allocations-- all of which is well documented.

The use of generative credits   is all up to the end user.

dobe implemented generative credits as a way to manage costs associated with their generative AI features, like those powered by Firefly, across their Creative Cloud applications. These credits act as tokens that users can redeem for generating AI-powered content like images, vectors, videos, and audio. Each Creative Cloud plan includes a monthly allocation of these credits.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
  • Cost of AI Processing:
Generative AI features, like those in Adobe Firefly, require significant computational resources on Adobe's servers.

  • Subscription Model:
Adobe uses a consumption-based model, where users are allocated a certain number of credits per month based on their subscription plan.

  • Usage:
Each time a user generates AI content using features like Generative Fill in Photoshop or Text to Image in Firefly, it consumes one or more credits.

  • Credit Allocation:
Different Creative Cloud plans come with varying monthly credit allocations. For instance, Creative Cloud All Apps users get 1,000 credits, while those with a Single App plan might get 500.

  • Beyond the Allocation:
If users exhaust their monthly credits, they can still use the generative AI features, but the processing speed might be slower.

Essentially, generative credits are Adobe's way of balancing the cost of providing powerful AI features with the need for a sustainable business model.
