Photoshop CC 2017 Unusable slow

I upgraded my Photoshop to CC 2017 today and since the upgrade it has been very very slow. When I click on File menu the dropdown menu appears like after 3-4 seconds. When I delete layer it take about 10 second. Zoom in and out are terribly slow. I work on Photoshop everyday hope to get the problem resolve as soon as possible.

Is there a way to downgrade to earlier version?

Processor: Intel i7-5960X

RAM: 32 GB

Graphic: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti

Will do, but I’ve already re-installed 2015.5 and am using it with no trouble. Once I clear some of my deadlines, I’ll give a 2017 another try.

Sounds good HabitPro, best to hold off on major version updates while in the middle of a project. However, If you do update in the middle of a project, uncheck the "Remove Old Versions" option during install so you have the previous version still until you can verify the new version works well on your system.

I can't even get the photo to show, only the small one in the Navigator.  Just hangs with a black screen for the photos.

I too am having the same slow response from PS CC 2017, which never happened on previous versions. The delay in drop down menus and zoom with  mouse scroll is way too annoying. I was pretty excited about new version, but I guess I have to downgrade to 15.5 again.

A genuine disappointing user here.

There's a possibility something else running on your system (could be another Adobe process) is slowing CC 2017 down.  What I need is your help (and others that are seeing this) to post a screenshot of Task Manager (Windows) or Activity Monitor (Mac) that shows the applications using the most CPU when Photoshop is running slow.

On Mac Activity Monitor looks like this (found in /Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor):

On Windows Task Manager looks like this (to get to it either press cntrl-alt-del or right-click on the task bar and select Task Manager):

Both of my examples above are cases where PS is running as expected, without issue.

So from my own anecdotal experience, I just upgraded from 10.11 to 10.12 last night and there was a stuck process, part of an Apple keychain update, that was using 100% of my laptops' CPU.  Everything was running slow on it until I unstuck that process.

I would really like to know if when Photoshop is running that there's something else hogging up your systems' resources. That could go a long way to help us figure out why you're seeing PS run so slow.

When photoshop runs it slows my whole system down, (same with illustrator) it's barely using any cpu... here's my programs running (see screenshot) it's fine for the first 30 mins then is slowly get's worse and worse, also attaching system info in a txt in case it helps (Hightail ) . It's so slow at times I have to wait a few seconds for each letter to appear if I type too fast, in other programs.

I see an update today, but no mention of any bug fixes, only a bunch of cloud "features" designed more to boost the already swelling Adobe's bottom line than provide reliable work solutions.

I've just installed the new Adobe Suite and photoshop is unusable. I opened up a png file, clicked crop and it gave me a spinning ball. That is THE only thing I've tried in photoshop 2017, so it doesn't bode well for trying other tasks....

2017.0 was the problem version.

I thought you were making progress Jacek? I'm not sure the font bug is the same as the sluggish interface but this thread has certainly quietened down since the 2017.1 release-hopefully that's a good sign.

If you compare unusable slow Type tool from 2017.0 and unusable slow Type tool from from 2017.0.1 but only when using TTF fonts (which are 80% of all my fonts)  - uhm, yeah... it its a HUGE progress... lol.

To be clear:

interface is slow on both of them, difference is that 2017.0.1 using OTF fonts allows me to write text normally. But doing something with fonts in options menu is slow anyway on 2017.0 and 2017.0.1

Watch my video posted on previous page, or Thomas video on this page - how could you call application working like that a "progress"?

Nothing changed for me, and him. Only that OTF are now fast, TTF slow. Type Tool interface is still laggy.

Updating to 2017.0.1 fixed my issue so far, and also I don't seem to be having type tool issues either.

It appears to be fixed for me with the update. I enabled font preview again and, so far, I am not having any issues.

I will reply after I upgrade to this newer release of PS CC 2017.  For now, I'm back in PS CC 2015.  I will probably stay there for several weeks months, till I am sure PS CC 2017 has been well and thoroughly debugged.  So, I'm afraid I won't be able to supply any useful information.

From my POV, the 2017.0.1 upgrade has at least made it useable, but doing the type selection test, there is quite a bit of lag and unresponsiveness.

If I had to do a lot of work with text I'd have to go back to the 2015 version.

So it's still not what I'd call 'fixed'.

Well maybe I spoke too soon yesterday, as today all the worst glitches have returned.  AFAIK there's been no OS changes here.

I noticed that having installed the updated version the Adobe Spaces Helper came back so I've deleted that whole folder again and now glitch free again.  Who knows?
